Pinch pots are very easy to make! You can use this simple strategy to make your pot as unique as you'd like!
To start off, roll your clay into a round ball. (This can be done by moving your hands together with the clay in a circular motion)
After you finish your ball, push your thumb into the center. (Do not push your thumb all the way through your ball! Only go however deep you want your pinch pot's opening to be.)
Keep your thumb inside the hole, and start to pinch the clay sides. Rotate this pinching around all sides of the ball. (The ball should start to become "ovalish" and have thinner sides.)
Keep rotating and shaping it into whatever size and shaped pot you'd like. (It can have wavy sides, be very tall, or look like the one in the example. Have fun with it!)
When you are done shaping, smooth the rough edges and cracks out with your fingers.
When you are fully done with your pinch pot, carve your first name and last initial into the bottom of your pot with the wooden skewer.
Problem Solving Pinch Pot Issues:
You will be assessed if you are able to make a pinch pot without severe cracks or damage. If your pot feels too cracked or wobbly, just reform it back into a ball and try again! It does not have to be perfect, but it cannot look too messy or cracked.
If your clay seems too dry, lightly dab it with a wet paper towel and rub it in with your fingers.
