The Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution (PFMR) frames and continues to guide our work. The End TB Now Act is an example of PFMR in action, but has yet to be introduced.
Dr. Paul Farmer’s vision and lifelong commitment to delivering high-quality health care in impoverished settings inspired a paradigmatic shift in global health, including the creation of PEPFAR and the Global Fund.
The Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution (H.Res.204/S.Res.95) honors Dr. Farmer by enshrining his vision for global health equity, and providing practical policy solutions to make it a reality.
It calls for the U.S Federal Government to adopt a 21st century global health solidarity strategy that:
Increases U.S. global health spending to $125 billion per year
Improves the effectiveness and efficiency of U.S. global health spending by localizing funding and investing in national health infrastructure
Take actions to address past and ongoing harms that undermine the health and wellbeing of people around the world by:
Supporting global economic justice reforms
Supporting redress for the harms of colonialism and ecological breakdown
