Pictonomicon is an iPhone app for examining photographs of prehistoric rock art. This policy explains what the app handles, what you can choose to save or share, and how to contact us.
The current iPhone app processes photographs and optional whistle input on your device. It does not require an account or send your photographs, audio, coordinates, notes, recipes, or usage data to a Pictonomicon server. It has no in-app advertising or analytics service. Saving to Photos or Files, or sharing a file, is an action you control.
Camera: Take captures a photograph. Live processes camera frames to show an original or enhanced preview and can record a silent video. Camera access is used for these features only.
Microphone: If you enable the optional whistle shutter in Take, the app analyzes live microphone input on the device to detect a whistle. It does not save or transmit the audio. Video recording is silent.
Selected photographs: Apple’s photo picker gives the app the image you choose; the app does not request general read access to your entire photo library. The selected photograph and its metadata are used for editing, recipe inspection, and saving the copies you request.
Location: Location recording in Take is optional and initially off. If enabled and permitted by iOS, the app may associate a recent location fix with a photograph at the shutter. Saving that location into a new copy is a separate Include location choice. For imported photographs, the app can copy existing source GPS metadata only if you choose to include it; it does not add your current device location to an imported photograph.
Photos and Files: With your permission, the app adds finished photographs and videos to Photos. If you choose a separate recipe file, you choose its Files destination. The app does not delete your original photograph from Photos.
Field notes and other metadata: You can choose to add notes, retain capture date and camera details, or include a recipe with processing settings when saving a photograph. A recipe can include source and output image fingerprints and dimensions; it does not itself contain GPS coordinates or field notes. These are separate save choices.
If you save with Include location on, GPS coordinates may be embedded in the photograph. Anyone who receives the file may be able to use them to locate the site. Notes, capture details, landmarks visible in the image, or other information can also reveal a place even when GPS is off. Review a copy before sharing it.
Include location starts off and, once turned on, remains on for future saves until you turn it off. Turning it off later does not remove metadata from copies already saved or shared. Recipe and note choices are separate.
Pictonomicon does not operate an app account or server for your content and does not transmit app content to advertising, analytics, or other developer-operated partners. The app writes a photo or video to Photos, or a recipe file to Files, only when you choose that action. If you later share or back up a saved file, the service and recipients you choose may receive its image, video, and included metadata. Apple Photos and iCloud behavior depends on your Apple settings and is governed by Apple’s policies.
App preferences, including location-related choices, are stored on the iPhone until you change them or remove the app. An unfinished edit can remain available in the app while you work. A completed video that could not be saved to Photos may be held in the app so you can retry saving or discard it. After a successful save, the app attempts to remove its temporary video copy.
You can turn off optional features in the app and change Camera, Microphone, Photos, or Location permission in iPhone Settings. You can delete saved photographs and videos in Photos and recipe files in Files. Removing Pictonomicon removes its app-local data, but does not erase copies already saved elsewhere or sent to other people.
