Pictonomicon for Android is an app for examining photographs of prehistoric rock art. This policy explains the information the Android app uses, what it saves, and how to contact us. The privacy contact is MacGuyVar@icloud.com.
The Android app processes photographs, camera frames, optional whistle input, and optional location on your device. It does not require a Pictonomicon account or use a Pictonomicon server for your content. The app does not include advertising or app analytics in the current build. Your choices to save an image, video, or recipe can place that file in a gallery or document provider that may sync it to a cloud service under your settings.
Camera: The app uses the camera to capture photographs and create a live enhanced preview or video. A captured photograph is first held in the app's private cache while you work.
Microphone: If you enable the optional whistle shutter and grant microphone permission, the app analyzes live sound on the device to detect a whistle. It does not make an audio recording for this feature or send microphone samples to us.
Selected photographs: You can choose an image with Android's photo picker or share an image into Pictonomicon from another app. The app reads the selected image and relevant metadata, which can include orientation, capture information, embedded GPS coordinates, and an existing Pictonomicon recipe. It uses these to display, edit, and save the copies you request.
Location: GPS tagging starts off. If you enable it and grant Android location permission, the app requests location updates and can add coordinates to a saved JPEG. An imported photograph may already contain GPS coordinates; the save option to retain those coordinates can start on for that photograph. Adding your current location to an imported photograph with no GPS requires a separate choice. If location permission remains granted, the current app can also read a last-known location fix when it opens even while GPS tagging is off. That fix is held in app memory; it is not stored in preferences. You can revoke location permission in Android Settings.
Notes, recipes, and settings: You can add field notes and choose to include a processing recipe in a saved JPEG. A recipe can contain editing settings and image fingerprints. App choices such as GPS tagging, export options, mode, and presets are saved in private app preferences.
The app saves finished JPEGs in your device's DCIM/Camera collection and videos in DCIM/Pictonomicon. A saved JPEG can include GPS coordinates, notes, date and time, software information, and recipe metadata, depending on the image and save choices. A separate recipe file can be saved to a document provider you choose. We do not choose or control that destination.
Anyone who receives a saved file may be able to read included metadata or recognize a location from the image, notes, or visible landmarks. Review a copy before sharing it. Turning GPS tagging off later does not remove location from files already saved or shared.
Pictonomicon does not operate an account or server for Android app content. The current app has no advertising or analytics service. It does not intentionally transmit your photographs, whistle input, notes, or location to us. Files you save to your gallery or a document provider may be backed up or synchronized by Android, your gallery or cloud provider, or your own device settings. If you share a file, the recipients and service you choose may receive its contents and metadata.
Android backup is enabled for this app. Private preferences may be included in Android cloud backup or a device-to-device transfer if those services are enabled on your device. Temporary cache files are normally excluded from Android Auto Backup. These system services are governed by their providers' settings and policies.
Security: While you work, the app uses Android app-private cache and preferences, which Android restricts from ordinary access by other apps. Exports are saved in shared device storage or a document provider you choose and are subject to that location’s access and backup settings.
App preferences and cached captures remain on your device until you clear app storage, Android clears cache, or you remove the app. The app does not currently provide a general in-app delete-all control. You can delete exported photographs and videos in your Gallery or Photos app and delete recipe files from the document provider where you saved them. Clearing Pictonomicon's storage or removing the app does not erase files already saved to shared storage, synchronized elsewhere, or sent to others. Backup copies may remain according to your Android or cloud provider settings.
Pictonomicon does not offer an app account, so there is no Pictonomicon account to delete. You can change optional features in the app and revoke Camera, Microphone, or Location access in Android Settings.
