Featured Members

A featured member is a member (or members) of the organization who has tremendously performed or contributed for the success of the event. This is the stepping stone for members to be recognized and be nominated as Most Outstanding Member.

Membership and Eligibility

Article III, Constitution and By-Laws

Section 1. Types of Membership. The types of membership and their respective eligibility requirements are as follows:

1.1. Regular Membership. Regular membership is open to all Chemical Engineers registered with the Professional Regulation Commission and are willing to register in this chapter.

1.2. Associate Membership. Associate membership is open to all holders of a degree in Chemical Engineering (BS ChE), from a recognized college or university and not a registered and licensed chemical engineer.

1.3. Honorary Membership. Honorary membership may be conferred by the Board of Directors by a unanimous vote to a notable person who is not a chemical engineer, but has performed notable and outstanding achievement, contribution, or service to the advancement of chemical engineering profession, upon the written recommendation of any one of the members.

Section 4. Admission of Members with Active Status. Any qualified person or entity may apply to Committee on Membership for admission to a Regular or Associate Membership.

4.1. Active Membership. All eligible individuals shall attain an ‘Active’ status upon confirmation of membership for the whole fiscal year. The active members shall be eligible of all the rights and privileges of a member stated in Article III, Section 5 of this Constitution and By-Laws.

4.2. Inactive Membership. Any active membership not renewed prior to expiration shall result to an ‘Inactive’ Status which immediately eliminates the privileges stated in Article III, Section 5 of this Constitution and By-Laws. The inactive member shall renew the membership prior to expiration and/or for the given grace period of thirty (30) days after expiration to exercise all privileges and attain the ‘Active’ status again. If the inactive member fails to renew the membership before the grace period ends, the inactive member shall be removed as a regular member of the chapter.

Free membership is given to those who just RECENTLY passed the board exam. This is valid to everyone who has taken his oath in the fiscal year he wishes to apply. However, for November passers who usually take their oath in December, they can immediately apply for membership but the fiscal year of their application will be next year. Apply by selecting Regular Membership in the first few questions and Free Membership at the later sections.

Duties and Benefits of Members

Article III, Constitution and By-Laws

Section 5. Rights and Privileges of Members.

5.1. A regular and active member shall be entitled to all services and privileges including:

5.1.1. the right to vote and be voted upon as an officer of the association;

5.1.2. the issuance of Certificate of Good Standing, Certificate of Membership and local ID upon request or as the Local Chapter may provide for any legal purpose deemed appropriate;

5.1.3. the permission of complete access of own’s files or documents, engagement records in activities and other personal information stored by the Local Chapter;

5.1.4. assistance and proper endorsement in processing the requirements for Advanced Level Engineer application, Dry Seal application, PRC ID application, Self-directed CPD seminars, Outstanding Chemical Engineer application and other legal requirements needing authentication from the Local Chapter;

5.1.5. the right to be advised and given prior knowledge of the recent changes in the Local Chapter’s Constitution and By-Laws and development in Chemical Engineering Law;

5.1.6. and the right to be endorsed by the Local Chapter if companies and institutions purposely seek for potential engineers for job opportunities.

5.2. An active associate member shall be entitled to all other services and applicable privileges stated under a regular member except the right to vote and be elected.

5.3. An honorary member shall be entitled to special privileges determined by the Board.

Member Achievements

Awards Earned by Members

Batangas Chapter has become one of the fastest growing chapters, catering at least 30 additional members every year.

As of 2019, there are 163 registered members under PIChE Batangas Chapter. Five (5) of which are ASEAN Engineers, with three of them as advisers of the chapter. The remaining members are registered engineers in the Philippines, both working locally and internationally.

On August 2019, Dr. Erma B. Quinay, ASEAN Eng, one of the advisers, was awarded by the Philippine Technological Council Woman Engineer’s Network as one of the Inspiring Woman Engineers of the Philippines. On the other hand, Engr. Florencio C. Lopez Jr., a member of the chapter, was featured as the First Filipino and Youngest Expatriate to hold Process Engineering Team Leader Position at Abu Dhabi Polymers Co (Borouge).

Just recently this September, achievements of the officers of the also include the recognition received by Rejie C. Magnaye, ASEAN Eng, during the Asia-Pacific Consortium Research and Educators, Inc. He was awarded with the APOCRE Best Research Paper Award.On the other hand, Engr. Monroe H. de Guzman, the current president of the chapter, was conferred as an Associate ASEAN Engineer at Jakarta, Indonesia during the CAFEO 37. This made him the first and youngest AAE of the chapter.

Seminars Attended by Members

Due to the need in advancement of chemical engineers both locally and internationally, members and officers of the organization attended separate seminars on Advanced Engineering Registry organized by Philippine Technological Council and PTC - Young Engineers Chapter, as well as Pollution Control and First Aid Seminars during the span of 2019.

Engineers Monroe H. de Guzman, Jonathan C. Cantos, and Theodore Rayner T. Pacil participated in the seminars intended for the application for AAE. This event included the discussion regarding the true status of Filipino engineers in international arena. The hosts mentioned also the respective accreditation that must be established in an institution to be considered as engineers in mutual recognition. The session also highlighted the importance of accreditation and outcomes-based education as a preparatory stage for engineers who would want to work abroad.

The avenue created by being conferred as advanced engineers is a two-way blessing. Once an engineer becomes recognized internationally, it can broaden his horizon and provide more practical application and knowledge obtained from international setting. This will aid the country and will provide better solutions in dealing with problems in the community. In this regard, Engr. Monroe de Guzman attended the CAFEO 37 organized by the AFEO Governing Board.

On the other hand, Engr. Essi Cruzat joined a seminar regarding pollution control sponsored by her company. She was able to learn more of her profession as a chemical engineer in-charge of waste water facilities.
