ChE Book Sale

ABOUT THE EVENT

This event is organized by PIChE Batangas Chapter, paralleled with PIChE Junior Chapter Batangas (facebook.com/pichejcb) to assist the new (and old) chemical engineering aspirants in their academic journey. Since books in chemical engineering are very expensive and difficult to order (as brand new versions), this event will be able to address this problematic scenario every student faces. This event also aims to tremendously cut the price of books which are still in good condition.

REGISTRATION

1. Registration does not mean that your books or materials are already sold. The chapter still needs to endorse it to students who are willing to buy.

2. Sellers must include the place and time where the chapter can easily pick up the books. We will be providing a drop-down list for you. Please select a schedule that will be convenient for you and the chapter since the officers are also working.

3. Sellers must indicate if their price is negotiable or not. If it is, he/she must indicate the lowest price it can be sold. This will make the task of the chapter easier in maintaining the price tags of the books or other materials.

4. The chapter will publish the nominated prices of the books in the site: http://sites.google.com/view/pichebatangaschapter/events

This will only include the name of the book and the nominated price so that others will have the idea on the current selling price compared with others. This is also intended for students to see the prices and decide whether to buy it or not during the event.

IF SOLD

1. The chapter will immediately inform the seller if the book (or other material) is sold.

2. In essence, 85% of the payment goes to the seller while 15% goes to the chapter. This is due to the travel cost in picking up the book, design materials and preparations needed to be done prior to the book sale.

3. The chapter will issue a customized receipt (not official receipt) with the name of the buyer and the seller on it. This will be given to both parties as reference. It will also include the contact details of the seller for further negotiations of the price.

IF NOT SOLD

1. In the event that the book (or other material) is not sold, the chapter will nominate a place where it can to be picked up. We have no capacity of bringing it door-to-door. However, if the seller wants to have it shipped through shipping services, he/she has to pay the fee.

2. If the seller, instead of picking it up, wants to donate the book instead, the chapter will coordinate with the junior chapter to donate this to students.

NEGOTIATIONS

1. The chapter encourages the sellers to join the event to make personal bargain with the buyer. It will also be easier for the chapter to provide receipts in personal.

2. If a buyer demands refund, the chapter will no longer accommodate this matter. However, the chapter will communicate with both parties to settle the issue and final decision must be agreed by both parties. The receipt will be the reference in communication.

ChE Book Sale

[Closed] Exposure Trip

July 24, 2019

To enhance the technical familiarity of chemical engineers with different industries in Batangas, this activity is brought to life.

The event will commence at 9:00 AM at First Philippine Industrial Park, where a large facility for wastewater is situated. Having a strategic location and easier access due to members of the chapter from this area, FPIP has been a prospect for plant visit and exposure trip. The program will include classroom discussion about the facilities and process and the actual on-site visit.

This half-day activity will cater 30 participants including professionals who are members of the chapter and students to bridge the gap in academe and industry sectors. In pursuit of the advancement for chemical engineers, we are hoping to pool members from different places in Batangas to join this first ever exposure trip!

Mechanics

1. Participants shall download the templates necessary for editing, including the white polo shirt and the logo of PIChE Batangas Chapter. They shall utilize this template for the design. Files can be downloaded at:

2. The logo shall be incorporated in the design, preferably, but not restricted in front of the shirt. Any combination of colors or styles in the design are allowed for as long as it does not portray racial, cultural, religious, or political discrimination.

3. The word ‘PIChE Batangas Chapter’ shall be incorporated as well, written in a neat or more formal font style preferably, but not restricted at the back of the shirt.

4. Additional designs including images, symbolism, wordings, etc. are not prohibited as long as no establishment and other organization are using those as their insignia.

Submission

1. Participants shall submit their designs on or before June 30, 2019 by completing the form that and uploading the files here:

2. Participants are only allowed to submit one entry. In case he/she wants to modify the design, he/she can re-upload the files by editing the form before the deadline.

Prizes

1. Each participant will automatically gain 5.0 membership points* as participating merit.

2. The winner of this event will gain 20.0 membership points* (other than his/her participation), 50% Discount to the upcoming CPD Seminar, and Free Polo Shirt of the Chapter.

3. The winner for this activity will be announced on the first week of July. Corresponding e-mail shall also be sent to every participating member.

*Membership Points are NOT CPD points. These are internal points given by the organization to members who participate in activities of the Chapter. These is in connection with the selection of the Most Outstanding Member of the Chapter that will be awarded at the end of the fiscal year.

3rd - 4th Week of July

EtChE-a-Sketch

As part of the preparation in celebration of the ChE Week (September), we will be calling out to your passion in painting or drawing.

This is open for all members of the chapter and those participants will simply submit their drawings or paintings online. This will be judged by the criteria laid down by the officers. No officers will be able to join as a participant of the event. Hence, to avoid bias, participants are required to use code names during online registration and only one officer will be able to know who's who. By then, he/she shall not be included in the panel of judges.

The theme will be announced later, but we are eyeing on artworks that will merge with the chemical engineering field for a twist (i.e. painting a Grosvenor chart to make it look like a rice field, etc.).

3rd - 4th Week of August

Hike for a Cause

The earth is dying and we have to do something!

This activity is intended for adventurous chemical engineers. The chapter will find a partnership with mountaineering sectors to assist in the selection of the beneficiary, but most probably this will involve mountain cleanup and tree planting.

Details of the events will be announced as soon as partnership is established.

September

ChE Week Celebration

The event is usually sponsored by the National. For those members who are willing to participate in this exciting event, we will assist you in your application, but fees shall be shouldered by the participating member himself.

International Coastal Clean-Up

In celebration with the International Coastal Clean-Up Day, the chapter will also conduct its own clean-up in the area of Batangas.

Members are encouraged to participate as this will be one of the biggest clean-ups that will be made if all members will be able to join the activity and help our mother earth.

October

3rd BatChES 2019

The most awaited event of the chapter will commence in October to cater members from Batangas and other areas. We are open for suggestions about the theme but the chapter is looking out for variety of topics including not only technical development but also immersion and personality development.

Also, the artworks made by the participating members during the EtChE-a-Sketch shall be turned over to the chapter prior to BatChES so that they can be placed at the exhibit. This will be an avenue for the chapter to showcase to others how talented the members are.

November

ChEin Reaction (c/o Junior Chapter)

The most awaited event of the Junior Chapter will commence in November to cater students. In this regard, the Batangas Chapter will provide sponsorship to the Junior Chapter as well as assistance in probable pooling of judges. The chapter will also encourage other members to attend the said event to witness how well the Junior Chapter performs and spearheads their own events.

This will also an avenue for the Batangas Chapter to invite the soon-to-be professionals to join chapter.

1st ChemE Collision

In celebration of the 21st year of PIChE Batangas Chapter, we would like to bring you the ChemE Collision, a parallel Quiz Bee with the ChEm Collision. This will inherit most of the rules and mechanics of the Quiz Bee intended for High School students, but will differ in level of difficulty. Core subjects of Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, and Chemistry will be involved in this manner as well as little of General Engineering Subjects.

This is open to all aspiring members of the chapter who would want to earn the title of First ChemE Champion. The chapter will still discuss if this will be a team or individual contest. Corresponding membership points will be awarded to the winning participants and discounted to free CPD Seminar will be given as agreed by the officers.

December

General Assembly / Christmas Party

To end the year with a blast, the chapter will spearhead the Annual General Assembly to elect the incoming officers of the next fiscal year. In connection, this will be the Christmas Party celebration of the chapter which will highlight the success of the chapter though the years as well as the awarding of the outstanding members of the chapter.

We are open for suggestion for this most-awaited event since this will be the first big gathering of all members of the Chapter in a non-seminar environment.

PIChE Batangas Elects New Officers for 2019-2020

May 25, 2019

Pursuant to the existing Constitution and By-Laws of chemical engineers, a general assembly was conducted last May 25, 2019 along with the 2nd CPD seminar aimed to elect the new set of officers for the fiscal year 2018-2019. Twelve (12) members of the local chapter were nominated and were elected in different positions by the members of the board themselves. The election was commenced by manual counting of votes as attested by the advisers and the existing COMELEC Committee. The offic- ers shall take their office effective immediately and shall end by December 31, 2019.

Engr. Monroe H. de Guzman, an officer of the previous fiscal year, was elected as the President; Engr. Rosamia D. Tubo and Engr. Essi Anne Kaye P. Cruzat were elected as the Vice Presidents for East and West, respectively. The position for secretary will also be held by the same person as for this year, Engr. Neres Ann S. Manguiat. Engr. Vanessa M. Magpantay was elected for treasurer position and Engr. Jackie Meileen B. Yurong was elected as the auditor. For PRO, the two engineers, Engr. Fati- ma Faye M. Guinhawa and Engr. Bianca Joahnna R. Nieves were designated to two large areas of Ba- tangas—East and West, respectively. The remaining of the 12 nominated members: Engr. Dave T. de Ramos, Engr. Jonathan C. Cantos, Engr. Ma. Isabel Angela R. Infante, and Engr. Robelle O. De Guz- man occupied the Board of Directors which shall spearhead the Education, Membership, Finance, and COMELEC committee, respectively.

The new members took their oath on the same day led by Engr. Maricris Vines, the National President.

2nd BatChES 2019

May 25, 2019

PIChE Batangas Chapter held its second Batangas Chemical Engineering Symposium more often referred to as 2nd BatChES last May 25, 2019 at Epic Event Center, Balagtas, Batangas City. It was participated by 51 professionals from different areas in Batangas including the officers and select- ed students from the junior chapter, PIChE—JCB. The program with the theme “Chemical Engineers in Combat: Adaptation and Mitigation Against Im- pending Climate Change” was aimed to inform chemical engineers about the results of climate change, promote awareness to this current situa- tion and provide solutions on how to adapt and miti- gate its effects. The whole program for the seminar ended at 4:00 PM with the oath taking of the new set of officers.

To update the members of the chapter, Engr. Rejie C. Magnaye , who would later become the Ad- viser of the Batangas Chapter, presented the President’s Report which included all the improvements, plans, accomplishments, and the target for both local and national organization. Constitution and By-Laws of the Local Chapter were discussed by Engr. Neres Ann S. Manguiat. The floor was also opened for the amendments desired by the members. Engr. Albert A. Samuela, Director of Marketing & Technical Consulting – Thailand, Indochina, Philip- pines Market Nalco Water, An Ecolab Company, shared his expertise through the discussion of water scarcity on his topic “Addressing Water Scarcity with Chemical Engineering Solutions”. Participants were able to ask questions regarding the future of the country and Batangas itself on the perspective of the professionals studying the field of water abundance.

After lunch, Engr. Hannah Fatima P. Ebro who is the Deputy City Resilience Officer/ Country Coordinator/Advisor – Philippines Asian Development Bank (ADB) of the Philippines strengthened the previous topic with her topic “Chemical Engineers at the Forefront of Climate Change”. In this topic, it was reiterated that the battle for climate change is already unavoidable and the only way to confront this phenomenon is to adapt and mitigate. She also cited methods on how people can contribute to alleviate the effects of climate change. As a chemical engineer, she encouraged everyone to inform our own family and friends regarding the drawbacks of what we have done in the past few years.

The last speaker, Engr. Melchy C. Enriquez, Prime Meridian PowerGen Corporation Asset Man- ager & Pollution Control Officer of First Gas Power Corporation/FGP Corp. conducted the discussion about “Greenhouse Gas Emission Accounting and Inventory” which provided knowledge about the emissions given by companies including power and manufacturing, as well as human and vehicular emissions. She presented the computation for the accounting of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere as a part of her job as a pollution control officer.

This also instated ideas to fellow chemical engineers about the duties of pollution control officers and how they impact the environment in their scope of responsibility.

The 5.0-point continuing professional development (CPD) seminar ended with the issuance of the certificate which would later be replaced by the final e-copy thru their respective e-mail. Participants, through google forms, provided their insights and feedback regarding the event. Most of them were pos- itive and satisfied for the 2nd BatChES while few commented that in the latter part, the topics were over- lapping. All in all, they were all looking forward for the third BatChES and for the new learnings that they may apply in the profession.
