About Phoenix Hedgehog Rescue
Previously known as Emma’s Hedgehog Hospital
Phoenix Hedgehog Rescue was created from a simple belief: every hedgehog deserves the chance to heal, recover and return to the wild.
Our story is one of resilience, rebuilding and hope.
Like the Phoenix we are named after, our rescue has risen again following a difficult chapter. From the foundations up, we have rebuilt our facilities, resources and operations with one clear purpose; to create a safe, compassionate and sustainable rescue dedicated to protecting one of the UK's most vulnerable native mammals.
Hedgehogs arrive in our care for many different reasons. They may be injured, orphaned, sick, underweight or struggling because of habitat loss and the impact of human activity. Whatever the circumstances, every hedgehog is treated as an individual life that matters.
Our role is not simply to rescue hedgehogs. We provide the care, rehabilitation and support they need to recover, with the ultimate goal of returning them safely to the wild whenever it is possible and appropriate to do so.
Rising Again
Phoenix Hedgehog Rescue has recently undergone a major rebuild. We have established a new rescue base, invested in essential equipment and supplies, and worked hard to create an environment where hedgehogs can receive high standards of welfare, medical attention and rehabilitation.
This has been a significant undertaking, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us reach this point.
But rebuilding a rescue is only the beginning.
We now want to build on those foundations and create a stronger, more sustainable future for Phoenix Hedgehog Rescue and one that enables us to help more hedgehogs when they need us most.
Our Future
We want Phoenix Hedgehog Rescue to be more than somewhere hedgehogs are brought when they are in crisis.
We want to be a place of recovery, education and hope.
Through our rescue work, community engagement and education, we aim to increase understanding of the challenges facing hedgehogs and encourage people to create safer environments for them.
Every hedgehog that leaves our care and returns to the wild represents another life given a second chance.
Together, we can turn survival into recovery, recovery into freedom, and give hedgehogs the future they deserve.
