VI. LIBRARY SERVICES

6.1 Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

Materials needed for research can be accessed easily through the user-friendly web catalog.

6.2 Open-Shelves System

The library users can have access to the books on shelves. The researchers make the selection of books by consulting the 

OPAC or by browsing through the books on the shelves which are generally arranged by subject.

6.3 Overdue Notification

Written and electronic messaging notification of overdue library materials shall be sent to the library users concerned via        email.

6.4 Referral

In cases when a research material is not available in the SJC library, a referral letter may be issued to bonafide students, faculty       and other members of the community who want to visit other libraries to access their collection.

Fill up a form and provide the ff: information 

(1) Specific date of your visit; 

(2) The Library you want to visit; 

(3) Researcher’s name/s ; 

(4) Your College/Faculty/Department; 

(5) Topic of research.

a.) non-compliance of the above;

b.) misdemeanor on the part of the researchers;

c.) researchers are not in proper attire;

d.) the library is being utilized fully by SJC populace;

e.) during examination weeks; and

f.) when she deems it necessary


6.5 Current Awareness

Information regarding new acquisitions, announcements, events, and notices are posted on the library’s bulletin boards to 

update the students, faculty, personnel and the entire SJC Phinma community on current developments in the library.

6.6 Library Orientation

6.7 Wi-Fi Connection

The SJC QC Phinma Library offers free wireless access (Wi-Fi) in all public areas. This service is available to all currently enrolled students, faculty and personnel. A unique password will be secured to the IT personnel and can only be used in a day only.

6.8 Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The library facilitates book borrowing from partner institutions on behalf of the library user if not available in the library.

Library users are welcome to make recommendations for the purchase of library materials.


VII. POLICIES ON BORROWING, RETURNING, AND RENEWING OF LIBRARY MATERIALS

7.1 Readers’ assistance

In instances that students are looking for a specific title and in an on-shelf status, student assistant, the library personnel will provide assistance in locating the book on the shelves until such time that it is made available to user.

7.1.1 Access to Collection

The Library adopts the controlled “open shelf” system where users can get inside the stacks to choose the books by themselves they would like to browse / use. However, books should be borrowed and charged out at the circulation counter before they are brought out of the section. Browsing is allowed inside the circulation section. And if the students decide to borrow them, they will undergo charging out processes at the counter.

7.2 Borrowing Procedures

✔ Search the book that you would like to borrow using the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

✔ Once you have found the book/s you want to borrow, fill up the borrower’s slip

✔ Library users will be allowed at the bookshelves to get the book/s.

✔ Present the book/s that you want to borrow together with the School I.D to the librarian in-charge at the CIRCULATION   COUNTER

✔ Library users must be cleared w/all obligations before he/she can be allowed to borrow.

Generated receipt from the library system will be presented to the cashier for the payment of fines. Acknowledgement receipt from cashier should be presented to the librarian in-charge to clear your account in the library system.
