Luke 11:1
Jesus’ Prayed
1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
Colossians 4:2-4
Devote Yourselves to Prayer
2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.
Philippians 4:6-7
Present Your Prayer Requests to God
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be Joyful, Pray Continually, and Give Thanks
16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Jesus prayed one day in a certain place...Jesus liked to be alone when He prayed to His Father...When He had finished praying one of His disciples ask Him to teach them how to pray...The disciple also brought up that John the Baptist prayed and taught his disciples how to pray...
We get many things just from this one verse...One is the Jesus and John the Baptist prayed to our Father...Also, they taught their disciples how they prayed...Although, we are not taught a prayer like the LORD's prayer from John the Baptist, we know that both Jesus and John prayed, and prayed often...It is good to know that John the Baptist prayed...He was a follower of both God and Jesus...John the Baptist and Jesus how they prayed, and viewed prayer...John's follower's prayers would sound much like his prayers...John was Jesus' messenger in the wilderness...But, I think, more important we learn that Jesus prayed and prayed often...The disciples would watch and would learn that He was in prayer often...They would learn from Jesus (and so do we), the Son of God, how He prays...We learn from Jesus that prayer is an honest conversation between ourselves and God...I think that is why He went off to solitary places often to pray...
I think we should reflect back on and see how often Jesus prayed, and come to this conclusion about prayer...If Jesus prayed and prays often, then so should I...
And why we pray is not for Jesus and God, that they need it...We pray because we need it...St. Paul in his letter to the Colossians tells us to devote ourselves to prayer, and to pray for others, and that God may open the door to Scripture and His message...St. Paul adds in his letter to the Philippians that we should make our prayer requests to God, and give the LORD thanks as we pray...St. Paul knew that we should give thanks for our health, our families, our friends, in our prayers...St. Paul was a devout prayer, and he too prayed often...St. Paul sums up a contented life in his first letter to the Thessalonians, when he tells us to be joyful, pray continually, and give thanks in all of our circumstances...And St. Paul uses the words in all circumstances give thanks...Pray changes are circumstances...Prayer may open our hearts more, make us feel more how we love someone, or make us see things differently...In times of trouble and healing prayers we know those around us love us and care for us...St. Paul knew even though it is nice to have and be in good times, through life's experiences we grow...He, in fact, is in chains in prison or jail as he writes the Colossians...
Jesus teaches us often in the New Testament about the power of prayer...Jesus is our Master of Prayer...Jesus prayers shows how He as a Man prayed for His daily necessities, and He knew His Father would provide...It is necessary to know that we should pray continually and persistently...When we pray everyday, we find that a prayer might not get answered until later...Some prayers are not answered because we are poor, rich, or nice, or courteous...It is answered because we kept praying...We prayed continually...Prayer sometimes are answered until we have prayed and prayed...
