Philippians 2:1-11
1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Never in my life have I heard about a Man, if it is fair to call Jesus a Man, like Jesus...He did nothing out of vain conceit or blind ambition...What He says, Teaches, and His Miracles show of His Divinity...Jesus' miracles are revealed in the four gospels...And in the gospels we are not told of any other miracle workers or teachers...And even though Jesus does many miracles they seem to be common for Him and somehow lose their shock and awe in the writings, His Teachings, and His Character...Somehow Jesus does His miracles in such a restrained and humbled way, that that in itself is another miracle...Jesus’ miracles tell us not only a lot about Himself, but also a lot about the Kingdom of God...Jesus does things that are very unique and the four Gospel Authors are totally unique in telling us about Him...
Jesus integrated His teachings into His Miracles...So His miracle accounts in the gospels give us lessons about love, faith, the forgiveness of sins, seeing through the eyes of faith, giving thanks, the Kingdom of God, salvation for the Gentiles, and the Great helping of others...Jesus is such a Radical, Mysterious Teacher and Rabi who does His Teaching in such a Way that His teaching that will never pass, with His deeds that will never pass, and a power and wonderment that surround Him that will never pass...There is no one like Him...
As we think about Jesus' Life, we can see why St. Paul wrote, Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness...And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!...Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the Name that is above every Name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father...
