- Initial System Analysis - Participants work individually on selected-response items that make assertions about systems or phenomena.
- Group Model Development - Participants work in groups to make an explanatory model (i.e. explain a phenomenon and/or predict cause-effect changes).
- Group Model Sharing & Revision -
- Gallery Walk - Groups visit and give feedback to other models.
- Groups revise their models.

Students may lack opportunities for full engagement in using models (see SEP #2 - Develop & Use Models):
- Discuss and revise models, rather than just developing models once, without revision.
- Use models for a purpose (e.g. explain, predict, generate data, test a solution), rather than just to represent a system.

- This routine (Do-Talk-Revise) is intended for professional development, but is also meant to be an adaptable model for classroom practice.
- This routine is focused on the student/teacher practice of developing and revising models (SEP #2), but can be applied to other Science & Engineering Practices (e.g. SEP #6, Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions).
