You are to develop a research proposal for your IRP. Your proposal needs to include the following:
1. A research focus
The video below provides a brief summary of CAFS as a subject. At approximately 1.09 there is a section on course content. Have a look at this as it provides some ideas for possible topics!
What area/ topic are you exploring?
(a) Explore the CAFS syllabus (Preliminary and HSC) and create a mind map to illustrates your group's areas of interest. Focus on key social issues facing individuals, families and communities.
2. Your research question and hypothesis
Activity
(b) Complete the following mind map for the topic your group is most interested in.
(c) Develop a question and hypothesis (predication of results) related to this topic.
(d) Critique your question and hypothesis by answering the following questions:
Is the question or hypothesis something that the researcher is interested in?
Does the question or hypothesis relate to the CAFS syllabus?
Is the question or hypothesis easy to understand?
Is there enough secondary data available on the research topic?
Will the researcher be able to access a suitable sample group to conduct primary research on the question or hypothesis?
3. Syllabus Links
(e) Write a detailed paragraph which shows clearly how your topic relates to the Community and Family Studies syllabus. Remember to refer to the Core or Option unit title and then specific areas in the syllabus where your topic fits.
4. A brief breakdown of the articles that will be used in your literature review

(f) For each article found, provide a one paragraph summary of the key ideas/ themes. Each person in the group should submit two paragraphs in this section.
5. Sampling Methods
(g) What sampling methods do you intend to use?
Why have you selected these methods?
Explain how your sampling method will impact on reliability and validity of your research
6. Research Methods
(h) What research methods do you intend to use?
Why have you selected these methods?
7. Timeline
Create a timeline to show HOW you will complete the IRP. Look at the syllabus for ideas of what to include.
