Reflective Practice

4.A.1: Reflective Practice

Regularly reflects on the effectiveness of lessons, units, and interactions with students, both individually and with colleagues, and uses insights gained to improve practice and student learning.

How I did it:

Reflecting on your teaching practice is an important aspect in meeting diverse needs and feel I am proficient at this. Reflecting on all parts of the lesson including the assessment is important to help you see where the students are and where you want them to be. Having worked as a Peer Learning Assistant I can see that a class who asks questions is one that's comfortable and feels secure in their situation. Every teacher's reflective practice should at least partially focus on student comfort in your classroom environment. Even more important, a teacher should continuously reflect on their instruction method and interactions with students to adapt their style to different classes. Although this takes practice I feel like I have made good progress by utilizing student surveys.

During our student teaching practicum we wrote weekly reflections on our highs and lows of the week, and answered some pedagogical questions. These reflections really made me think and were a great precursor to the practicum seminar where we delved even deeper into these ideas
