The Peters Lab joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in summer of 2023. Jamie (Dr. J) has long been interested in how neural circuits control behavior and the neurobiological substrates by which emotional memories are encoded and retrieved. She enjoys mentoring inspired neuroscientists, writing grants, and puppies.

Chris joined the lab in November of 2024 after finishing his PhD at the University of Texas at Dallas investigating the mechanisms of vagus nerve stimulation for the treatment of addiction. He is interested in neuroplastic changes associated with substance use disorders. While not in the lab he loves to workout, try new baking recipes, and go hiking.
Leandro joined the lab in February of 2024 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He graduated in Biology and completed his PhD at the University of Granada (Spain), focusing on rodent models of alcohol self-administration. He enjoys all activities related to nature and cooking.

Margareth joined the lab in February of 2024 as a Postdoctoral Researcher. Margareth has been interested in the mechanisms of action of psychedelic compounds as potential treatments for psychiatric disorders. She enjoys architecture, interior design, and cats.
Nathaniel joined the lab in September of 2022 as a Research Assistant, then moved with the lab to UAB in summer of 2023, where he is now a third year PhD student. He completed his bachelor's degree at Lake Forest College in neuroscience and biology. He enjoys hiking and adding to his houseplant collection.
Charlie joined the lab in January of 2026 as a PhD student. They completed their bachelor's degrees at the University of Tennessee in both neuroscience and psychology/sociology. They enjoy hanging out with their cats, playing card games, and watching new shows.
Abigail joined the lab in 2026 as a Behavioral Neuroscience doctoral student. She is interested in psychedelic therapeutics for substance use disorders and their sustained effects on behavioral outcomes, epigenetic expression, and dendritic morphology. Abigail completed her B.S. in Psychology at Texas A&M University in 2023 and her graduate Capstone in Psychoactive Pharmaceutical Investigation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2025. She enjoys EDM music, hiking in the Appalachian foothills, indulging in caffeine, contemplating her fate, and scouring eBay for archive designer pieces.
Melinda joined the lab in November 2025 as a Research Assistant. She attended Auburn University where she received a BS in Zoology with a concentration in conservation and biodiversity. She enjoys spending time outdoors and baking.
