Research and development work prize: Faculty-level award from UiT - The Arctic University of Norway.
The R&D (research and development work) award shall honor employees, units or the environment who have excelled in research, professional and artistic development work over time or especially in recent years.
The award winner is described as a spearhead in his field of research and has excelled with his collaborative projects and discoveries. The award winner is an expert in the application and development of ancient DNA methodologies, and his recent collaborative project, in which the world's oldest DNA was found in a mammoth tooth, has received local, national and international attention. The award winner's publication rate is high, and the committee is particularly impressed by his international reach and publications in renowned journals such as Nature and Current Biology. This helps to position UMAK and the University Museum in the research field.
