PENSTOCK VALVES

Penstocks are a specialist flow control and isolation valve for fluids associated with water, waste water, sewage treatment plants, power generation, irrigation schemes and process plant. Penstocks are designed to cater for a wide variety of duties from low on seating (fluid forces the penstock onto wall) to high off seating (fluid forces penstock away from wall) and on/off seating (fluid forces can be both ways).

APPLICATIONS

Typically utilized in river, surface/storm water and treatment works outfalls. May be bolted to flanged end of a pipeline, or bolted to wall face of outfall.

SPIGOT BACK

The back side of the penstock is flat in order for it to rest against a flat wall, the frame held in position with anchor bolt.

The integrally cast Spigot at the back protrudes inside the opening in the wall, the cavity around it sealed off with grout. The entire door travel is supported and these are generally metal to metal seated, all 4 sides, with a robust and yet simple wedging devise that is unbroken.

Sizes Available: 200 to 2500 mm

Head: 6 to 10 MWC

FLANGE BACK

The rear of the frame has a machined flange that is fixed on to a flanged wall thimble. The thimble is grouted into the wall and there is a seal provided between the wall thimble flange and Penstock flange. The wedging devise on all the 4 sides (bottom side excluded when it is flush invert type) are adjustable. Sometime due to space constraints or for reasons of economy, the wall thimble is eliminated and the flange of penstock is held on to the wall by anchor bolts.

Head: 6, 10, 15 MWC

Standard applicable: AWWA C- 560/ IS – 13349

Other: Both flush invert type and conventional (all 4 sides metal seating) is available. Penstocks for HIGHER Heads up to 35

MWC (custom built) can be supplied.

CHANNEL MOUNTED (FLAT BACK)

These are essentially for applications inside channels or end of channel, the heads never exceeding the height of the Door. Mostly in cast iron construction with bolted frame members, the single piece door with elastomer seals on 3 sides, sliding in machined recess in the frame, lined with bronze / St. guide ways for unhindered movement. In most cases, these have a steel fabricated Yoke on top (SELF CONTAINED) where the operating arrangement (Handwheel / Gearbox / Electric actuator) is provided.

WEIR GATE

These are ‘DOWNWARD OPENING’ gates, mainly for decanting a column of water and are mostly custom built to suit the site condition. It has a combination of metal to metal and/or elastomer seal to make these leak tight.

A scraping device is provided on the door to ensure it remains near leak tight even at intermediate positions as soon as the mating seats (on stationary frame and moving door) break contact.
