For the purpose of the CMP, the hospital site is defined as the square block between 8th, 9th, Spruce, and Pine streets.
Recommendations pertain specifically to the grounds within this defined boundary, the historic Pine Building, and the collections and records held within. While the Pine Building, a National Historic Landmark, has remained the symbolic heart of the historic hospital, the Hospital occupies a number of other historic buildings in the area that are important contributors to its, and the neighborhood’s, historic context.
The historical significance of the Ayer Building and Gate House which are located within the defined boundary, are noted though they are not studied in-depth in this report.
