In line with the National Students’ Day (NSD), Antipolo City National Science and Technology High School (ACNSTHS) conducted its own school-based NSD celebration on November 15, showcasing lip sync competition and club booths to appreciate and give importance to AnScians.
The Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) spearheaded the event in accordance with the Republic Act No. 11369, an act that acknowledged November 17 as the National Students Day every year.
The lip sync battle required two representatives of each grade level to lip sync and dance to Filipino songs, grades 7 to 9 battled together in the first round while grades 10 to 12 were grouped together as well.
Moreover, clubs also prepared interactive booths for the students to enjoy, giving time for the AnScians to play and participate.
Drag Queens and Kings
The grade 11 and grade 8 contestants won the first round of the competition and battled it out in the final round, grade 11 was held as champion while grade 8 ran for first runner up.
Grade 11 winner Olma Mariano shared his experience during the competition, emphasizing that he had fun while performing.
“I didn’t think it would turn out so fun, I was really nervous at the backstage when I saw the other contestants with all their costumes so I was really intimidated,” Mariano added.
Meanwhile, grade 10 contestant Vencenth Parcon decided to join the competition to share his talent and interest in lip syncing.
“Yung cheers ng batch 8 was so moving na mapapakita ko na yung talent ko [...] Wag ko ipressure sarili ko that much kasi kapag prinessure mo sarili mo parang hindi ka na makakaperform nang maayos,” he also shared.
Jan Xerohj Olivo, ex-SSLG president and one of the judges of the performances, added that competitions like these showcase other talents of AnSci students.
“Kinabog talaga nila yung activity - yung contest rather, makikita naman doon sa efforts nila na hindi sila nagpapatalo, nakikita doon yung values ng AnSci students na kahit anong pagsubok o challenges na tanggapin nila sa buhay hindi sila papayag na hindi sila mag-eeffort,” he emphasized.
Drum Up Interest
While the performance was commencing, club organizations organized their respective booths before students could visit them after the competition was finished.
Once all contestants were done performing their lip syncs, AnSci students went to different club booths or “stations” per batch level to participate in different booths held by each organization.
Grade 11 representative of Book Lovers’ Club, Jaydee Nicdao, stated that they prepared the club booths weeks prior to the event.
“Actually, medyo matagal din kami nagprepare tapos nagdisseminate din kami ng task like every officer may tasks sila para madali na sa NSD mismo.”
Moreover, grade 7 student Elijah Suico found the celebration enjoyable and was shocked by the amount of booths and preparation by the school.
“It was actually very fun, I wasn’t expecting it to be so open on booths and events [...] I thoroughly enjoyed my time in experiencing National Students Day in AnSci,” Suico said.
