As a foster caregiver, you are crucial to our guinea pig rescue. We will provide you with all the essential necessities to foster & care for the guinea pigs, including a cage, carrier, bowls, water bottle, and fleece liners. Below we have shared an overview of the tasks & responsibilities you will agree to take on as a foster:
Providing a clean environment: As a foster,, you will ensure that their cage is clean. Do spot cleaning daily, Change pee pads at least every other day, and fully clean their fleece/bedding once a week.
Keeping them healthy: You will keep their nails trimmed to a healthy length and trim their hair when it gets to an unmanageable length.
Interact with your foster pig: Talk to them and let them have supervised floor time. Love on them! We want them to be acclimated and inviting so that potential adopters fall in love with them. It’s also essential to know their behaviors to spot problems if they arise.
Health checks: It's important to make sure your foster piggy is healthy. If you foster we ask that you weigh babies daily and adults once a week and inform us of their weight in grams.
Take pictures: Send us pictures as often as possible for us to share on social media & adoption sites to find them their forever home!
Take them to & from Vet appointments.
We will contact you frequently to make sure the guinea pig in your care is doing good. Once their forever family is found we will send an email to you so you can arrange a meetup. (If you do not want to host the meetup, let us know so we can arrange for drop off at our rescue.) We will send the new owners a contract before the meetup so that if the adopter wants to adopt your fosters, he/she can sign the contract before they take them home!
