LAS International Programs programs are competitive. All applicants must submit an environmental impact statement, in which they reflect on the environmental price of studying abroad and research sustainability initiatives in their host city/country, and a personal essay, in which they discuss the reason they chose their selected program location. Students are strongly encouraged to use the personal essay to elaborate on how the selected program will contribute to their academic, professional, and personal goals.
Keep in mind that studying abroad is an academic experience that should be harnessed to advance your educational and professional interests. Choosing a location to study abroad should, therefore, not be based on your or your friends' personal travel plans. Your personal essay should include specific personal, academic, and professional goals you wish to complete abroad, and how this experience will enhance your overall degree program.
LAS International Programs and its international partners take a holistic approach to application review and all application materials are evaluated closely. The academic fit of the selected program to the applicant plays an essential role in the application review process. If, during the review process, a different program is determined to be a better academic fit for the applicant, LAS International Programs will schedule a meeting to discuss alternative program options.
