In 2009 I collaborated with the team at Courage Campaign on this video in support of Marriage Equality. While we garnered more than one million views between Vimeo and YouTube, it was always the photos that told the real story here!
"Your idea to add Fidelity to the pictures we had collected of couples was a stroke of brilliance. I remember the first time I played the song over a slideshow and realized how powerful it could be (as tears welled up in my eyes). Thank you, Paul!"
-Eden James, Deputy Chief of Campaigns, Color of Change
In 2003, like thousands of online writers, I created a 'handle' and began blogging. The results were powerful.
In addition to being part of a movement, I also came to realize that I could play a part in making that movement better. In 2007, along with a small team of volunteers, I led a scholarship program we called 'Chicago Voices' that raised more than $21,000 to bring 18 diverse scholarship recipients to a convention in Chicago. It was fun and hard work, and I'll never forget the feeling of making it all come together and celebrating with the team!
After graduating with a BA in Comparative Literature, I decided to study Film and Photography in the early 90's in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Lucky for me the nonprofit I studied at was forced to close.
I say lucky because I worked with a team of fellow students and volunteers to build a new, leaner nonprofit in its place. The life lessons I learned working with that small team on a scrappy startup helped shape who I am. And the nonprofit we created still serves artists to this day.
