SUMMARY OF THE ROLE PLAY
An RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) practitioner and a candidate who wants to learn more about RPL usually engage in a structured dialogue during a role-playing exercise in which the practitioner describes the RPL process and how it might help the applicant.
To make the candidate feel at ease, the practitioner welcomes him and gives his introduction.
The practitioner gives a thorough explanation of RPL, covering its definition, significance and operation. The RPL practioner explain that without having to redo training or schooling, RPL enables people to obtain official recognition for the abilities and information they have acquired via voluntary work, work experience or informal learning.
The practitioner provides an explanation of the assessment procedure, detailing how the candidate's evidence will be assessed to ascertain whether his past learning satisfies the requirements for the unit or qualification they are pursuing.
The practitioner talks about the advantages of RPL, including time and cost savings through the recognition of prior knowledge.
In order to make sure the candidate is completely informed and secure enough to proceed, the practitioner concludes by responding to any queries the candidate may have.
The main goals of this role play was for the practitioner to walk the applicant through the process and give him clear, intelligible information about RPL, all the while making sure the candidate feels encouraged and secure enough to use RPL to fulfill their certification requirements.
