The problem:
Economic shocks via AI, demographic and economic shifts will cause the de-skilling of the knowledge economy will requiring people to re-skill and upskill in the middle to later portions of their careers without access to a education counsellor
Below is a graph of the losses of highly skilled workers. However, 68% of high-knowledge workers are aware that AI will shift their work in the next 10 years, requiring them to upskill or find a new role to stay employed.
When re-skilling, financial and time considerations are part of the calculation to go back to school, adult learners are less likely to re-skill if the cost or the time doesn't suit their needs
Adult learners want to know the benefits of re-skilling ahead of time, salary and job security data, as well as pension plans, are important data up-front to consider what career to jump into
During re-skilling and up-skilling adult learners may have to synthesize course content in a way that doesn't acknowledge the realities of a mature learner: education needs to meet the learning needs and time constraints of the mature learner
