Our vision for the teaching of RE is for the children to explore big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that we can make sense of religion, reflecting on our own ideas and ways of living.
Religious Education at Parkfield Primary
At Parkfield, our Religious Education curriculum is carefully planned to give pupils a rich and meaningful understanding of different faiths, worldviews, and ethical perspectives. Each year group follows carefully selected NATRE units, with clear overviews, lesson sequences, and key vocabulary. Every unit is mapped directly to the statutory outcomes in our borough’s agreed syllabus, ensuring progression and coverage across EYFS to Year 6. Pupils explore big questions about belief, values, and moral choices, linking learning to real-life contexts, stories, and communities. Our curriculum supports pupils to understand what matters most to people of faith and belief, while also reflecting on their own ideas, promoting respect, critical thinking, and a sense of moral responsibility.
The children are taught in discreet year groups in mixed ability groupings. They are taught during an ‘RE Week’ each half term. In addition to these weeks, there are additional RE teaching for the Christian festivals of Christmas and Easter; for other religious and cultural festivals, such as Chinese New Year, Passover, Ramadan and Diwali.
