Project Directors

Philip Goff 

Philip Goff (Ph.D., University of Reading) is Professor of Philosophy and consciousness researcher at Durham University, UK. His research focuses primarily on problems related to the nature of consciousness and panpsychist proposals in the philosophy of mind, and related problems in metaphysics and the philosophy of religion. He co-hosts the Mind Chat podcast. Dr. Goff's work has been published in various collections and in leading philosophy journals such as Australasian Journal of Philosophy, The Philosophical Quarterly, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research, and elsewhere. He is the author of three books, Consciousness and Fundamental Reality (Oxford University Press, 2017), Galileo's Error: Foundations for a New Science of Consciousness (Pantheon, 2019), and Why? The Purpose of the Universe (Oxford University Press, forthcoming). He is also the editor of the book, Spinoza on Monism (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2012) and co-editor, with Alex Moran of a special issue of Journal of Consciousness Studies.

Andrei Buckareff 

Andrei A. Buckareff (Ph.D., University of Rochester) is Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the Cognitive Science Program at Marist College, USA He was co-director of two other Templeton funded projects with Professor Yujin Nagasawa, Exploring Alternative Concepts of God (Grant ID #20308) and The Pantheism and Panentheism Project (Grant ID #59140). His research is currently focused on applying a neo-Aristotelian ontology of causal powers to address various problems in metaphysics, the philosophy of mind and agency, and the philosophy of religion. Professor Buckareff is the author of the mini-monograph, Pantheism (Cambridge University Press, 2022), that is part of the Cambridge Elements in the Philosophy of Religion series. He has also published chapters in various collections and articles in numerous journals, including Canadian Journal of Philosophy, Philosophical Explorations, Philosophical Studies, Religious Studies, Synthese, and elsewhere. Professor Buckareff has co-edited five collections, including, most recently, with Yujin Nagasawa, Alternative Concepts of God: Essays on the Metaphysics of the Divine (Oxford University Press, 2016) and, with Carlos Moya and Sergi Rosell, Agency, Freedom, and Moral Responsibility (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2015). He has co-edited special issues of European Journal for Philosophy of Religion and International Journal for Philosophy of Religion on alternative conceptions of the divine. He is the book review editor for International Journal for Philosophy of Religion.

Yujin Nagasawa

Yujin Nagasawa (Ph.D., Australian National University) is the H.G. Wood Professor of the Philosophy of Religion and Co-Director of the Birmingham Centre for Philosophy of Religion at the University of Birmingham. His research currently focuses on metaphysical problems in the philosophy of religion and the philosophy of mind. He has published articles in numerous leading journals, including Mind, Philosophical Quarterly, Synthese, Religious Studies, Faith and Philosophy, and International Journal for Philosophy of Religion. He is author of God and Phenomenal Consciousness: A Novel Approach to Knowledge Arguments (Cambridge University Press, 2008), The Existence of God: A Philosophical Introduction (Routledge, 2011), Miracles: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2017), and Maximal God: A New Defence of Perfect Being Theism (Oxford University Press, 2017). He is the editor for the Cambridge Elements in Philosophy of Religion book series and co-editor for the Palgrave Frontiers in Philosophy of Religion book series. He is also the editor of Religious Studies and former President of the British Society for Philosophy of Religion. 

David Chalmers

David Chalmers (Ph.D., Indiana University) is University Professor of Philosophy and Neural Science and co-director of the Center for Mind, Brain, and Consciousness at New York University. He is also Honorary Professor of Philosophy at the Australian National University and co-director of the PhilPapers Foundation. Chalmers is a leading authority working in the philosophy of mind (especially consciousness) and the foundations of cognitive science. He has also made substantial contributions in the philosophy of language, metaphysics, and many other areas. He is the author of multiple books, including Consciousness: In Search of a Fundamental Theory (Oxford University Press, 1996), The Character of Consciousness (Oxford University Press, 2010), Constructing the World (Oxford University Press, 2012), and, most recently, Reality+: Virtual Worlds and the Problems of Philosophy (W. W. Norton, 2022).

Gianna Nicosia

Gianna Nicosia is a senior at Marist College majoring in Philosophy and Psychology and minoring in Cognitive Science. Her primary interest is the field of neurophilosophy. 

Lily Jandrisevits

Lily Jandrisevits is a junior at Marist College majoring in English and Philosophy and minoring in French. She is currently working on a project with a focus on Marxist critiques of Nietzsche.
