In September 2019, the first event of this format took place at the University of Évora, the Paleo Fall Meeting.
Organized by Pedro Fialho and Roberto Silva (the hosts), in collaboration with the School of Science and Technology of the University of Évora, the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT) and the HERCULES Laboratory.
The University of Évora, the main sponsor and collaborator, provided financial and logistical support for the organization and implementation of this event.
Prof. Dr António Araújo, Prof. Dr Ausenda Balbino, Prof. Dr Carlos Ribeiro, Prof. Dr José Mirão, Prof. Dr Luiz Gazarini, and Prof. Dr Mourad Bezzeghoud also participated in the Organizing Committee.
We intended to attract the attention of students, researchers and potential interested parties to Paleontology.
It took place from the 26th to the 28th of September, with a wide range of lectures and conferences (26-27th September) and excellent guests, including participation in the European Researchers' Night and workshops (28th September). We stimulated imagination, presented possible interactions with other areas (e.g. arts, IT, communication and chemistry) and encouraged networking.
Around 60 participants were present, including five lecturers and eleven speakers. 23 abstracts submitted were presented.
The Volunteer Team relied on the collaboration of NEHAUE and NEBIOQUE (groups of students from the University of Évora), which was crucial in bringing the event to fruition. The following students were part of this team: Ana Ventinhas, António Diniz, Beatriz Domingos, Bruno Gomes, Carolina Escada, Daniel Rosa, Inês Ribeiro, João Oliveira, Maria Lopes, and Teresa Vieira.
The University of Évora also hosted an exhibition of Portuguese and international fossils from the Natural History Society and the Centro de Ciência Viva de Estremoz.
