The Paleo “Season” Meeting concept was created in 2017 by your hosts, Roberto da Silva and Pedro Fialho, two Paleontology students at the time.
The first edition, the Paleo Fall Meeting (September 26th to 28th, 2019), stood out from the other scientific events roster from that year, due to its emphasis on students’ academic growth in this science. It was a more informal and open formula, but no less rigorous or scientific, by students and for students.
Five years later, the second edition—the Paleo Spring Meeting—took place (May 20th to 23rd, 2024). The essential pillars were the cooperation between the different actors in Paleontology and the support for those taking their first steps on their scientific path. We once again sought to bring diverse knowledge and life experiences to stimulate imagination and encourage networking. In this second edition, a hybrid participation regime (in-person and online) was tried out, and we also implemented the double-blind peer review method, reducing the possibility of partial review by keeping the identity of both authors and reviewers anonymous throughout the review process. As an innovative element, we opened the Paleo Spring Meeting to the participation of scientific illustrators. We hoped to empower them and give them tools for the recognition of their work by the scientific community, as well as their essential role in the development, preservation, and communication of paleontology. Once again, the Paleo Spring Meeting sought to bring together a wide range of excellent presentations, activities, and guest speakers to provide an enriching event for the entire paleontological community.
