The IUSS Commission 1.6 Paleopedology promotes interdisciplinary research on paleosols by Pedologists, Geologists, Paleoecologists, and Geoarcheologists. Knowledge on paleosols increases our knowledge of past environments and our understanding of modern soil formation.
Special Issue
Soil Memory of Contemporary and Paleo Environments: From Single Proxy, Pedofeature or Property to Soilscape Records
The Special Issue will focus on problems of soil-based environmental reconstructions, applying both traditional and innovative methods, contributing to the further development of the concept of soils and paleosols as a memory of environmental change and man-landscape interactions.
The following aspects are of a special consideration:
Paleosols and contemporary polygenetic soils as records of present and former environments
Studies of soil memory linking pedogenesis, sedimentary, and geomorphic processes
Archaeopedology: soils, paleosols and soil materials in archaeological context with a particular focus on their environmental history
Predictions of future soil changes as a result of changes in environmental conditions and/or land use, based on observed past soil responses to environmental changes
Soil micromorphology as one of the key tools to understand soil processes and their time sequences, litho-heritage, diagenetic alteration
Special Issue “Deserts and Loess Landscapes in East Asia” in Geomorphology (CiteScore: 7.8 / Impact Factor: 3.9).
Entitled ‘Deserts and Loess Landscapes in East Asia’, this special issue will feature papers on East Asia's arid landscapes, aeolian landform dynamics and their interactions with climate change and human activity. You can read the full special issue scope here. The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2024.
Special issue “Eurasia before and after the 8.2ka event – a significant horizon of cultural change?”
in Quaternary Environments and Humans, the official open access journal of INQUA. This special issue will feature papers on the different geographical, ecological, and cultural settings from across Eurasia, dealing with the impacts of the ‘8.2 ka BP event’ on human socio-ecological systems. You can read the full special issue scope here. The deadline for submissions is 1 November 2024.
European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly has launched the call for proposals, and they invite to take an active part in organizing the scientific programme of the conference, from now until 9 September 2024, by suggesting sessions with conveners and a description in your preferred programme group, as well as Short Courses, Union Symposia, and Great Debates. Prior to suggesting a session, it is recommended to review the guidelines. Please check with all conveners that they agree to take part in the proposed session and refer to the convener guidelines and rules for detailed information of what to expect. https://egu25.eu/guidelines/conveners.html Please do not hesitate to contact the Copernicus Meetings team for further information egu25@copernicus.org
