Next Pack Meeting: 23 January - Pinewood Derby!
This position is very busy for the month of August, and then you’re done for the year! Here are the responsibilities for the recruiting coordinator:
(You don’t need to do all this yourself. Please tap shoulders and delegate.)
Update (if needed) and print recruiting materials:
Single page title to hang or place on tables at recruiting events (only need to print 1 or 2 for each event)
One-pager handout (front and back sides) with key information about our pack and joining (print 25 copies for each Back to School event; 25 copies for Bike Rodeo; 25 copies for first pack meeting)
Coordinate 1 volunteer each at Van Meter & Blossom Hill Back-To-School nights. Here’s what they need to do:
ON MONDAY of back to school night week, reach out to the H&SC president OR the school principal to ask that we can have a table set up for us during the first portion of the night.
On back to school night, arrive 15 minutes early so you can ensure there’s a table for us. And if not, track down the janitor to get one for us.
It’s a nice touch to put out a tablecloth, either black or white. The pack has at least one in storage if you do not.
Print and bring copies of the documents mentioned above. If you don’t want to use your own printer’s ink, you may copy those files to a USB and take them to kinkos and get reimbursed.
It’s nice to bring a few scout things — like a belt with loops, a handbook, a uniform shirt, a pinewood derby car. Whatever you find is fine. It’s not critical you have this, but it gives people something to look at and it’ll spark conversation.
Typically the back-to-school nights being with a 15-30 minute portion where parents mill around and listen to the principal, H&SC president, LGEF representative, etc talk. It is during this time you should have a scout table in the midst of this quorum. It is nice the schools let us represent ourselves at this event, because they don’t let all groups do so. So we want to be seen, but we don’t want to be obnoxious. We will not make any speeches. 🙂
Review the FAQs before hand so you are prepared to answer questions. If anyone has additional questions, please encourage them to email pack556Register@gmail.com. Someone will reply within a day.
Update large scouting district banner and hang.
Reach out to the Pioneer District and ask to borrow the large recruiting banner. (They’ll set it out on the will-call table for you to pick up)
Update the dates on words for scout banner, print it out, and tape it to the banner.
Hang the banner on the fence near the baseball field, next to Blossom Hill’s parking circle prior to the first day of school. Get permission from the admin assistants at Blossom Hill. Shouldn’t be a problem – we do this every year.
It should look something like this:
Other recruiting options
Van Meter will often let us post a flyer in their glass case outside the main office. Ask permission, and post the one-pager handout on the first day of school.
Post flyers at Jamba Juice, Ace Hardware, the LG library, etc (with permission)
Post first few events on NextDoor (date, time, location, what to expect, what to wear)
Post first few events on Facebook page (if we have one)
