Welcome to an exciting year of Cub Scouts!
We are so glad you have chosen to join us on the Cub Scout Adventure Trail this year as we learn about the outdoors and help these Scouts develop character traits to take with them throughout life. Our plan for this year is full of fun activities, games and field trips. We will cover topics like:
Citizenship
Physical Fitness
Character & Leadership
Exploring the Outdoors
Safety Awareness
Family & Reverence
Conservation
STEM
Racing
and so many more!
Our Cubs will have the opportunity to test themselves like never before, physically and mentally, and learn how to make ethical decisions on an age appropriate level. And the best part? They'll build lifelong friendships in the process.
For some of us, Scouting has been a huge part of our lives. For others, we've only just gotten started. So, if you are new to Scouting, please do not feel intimidated. We are all here to help each other grow along this journey. At Pack 11, we welcome the whole family (parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles) so if you know someone who wants to get involved and share in this experience with your Scout, bring them along. (Please see our Safety page for Youth Protection Training requirements for all adult volunteers)
You may be asking yourself what to expect now that you've decided to join us. Let's see if we can break that down for you.
Each Scout should complete an application, either paper or electronic, to be registered with our Pack. Adults interested in helping out? Great! Simply complete the adult volunteer application as well. Once those have been submitted, the Council office will review them and get your Scout (and you) connected to Scout Book. Scout Book is one method we use to track progress and advancement and schedule Den activities throughout the year. Watch your email for that link!
Visit our local Scout Shop to purchase your Scout's handbook and uniform, or visit the online Scout Shop if you prefer. Our local shop is located at 172 NC Hwy 581-S, Goldsboro. The staff there will be happy to help you find the items you need to get started. Our Pack is in the process of setting up a Scout Closet for those who may need a little assistance in this department so be sure to check with a leader if this may be your situation.
Our calendar this year is overflowing with exciting activities (guest speakers, field trips to the battleship and zoo, family movie nights, hikes, camping, cycling, Pinewood Derby, and so much more!) so make sure to check out our Events tab to find the most up-to-date information. You should also receive a printed version in your New Parent Guide.
Our Pack currently uses the app GroupMe for communication purposes. Please check your email or texts for a link to join our group. If you prefer not to use GroupMe, that's ok too. Please let one of our leaders know so we know how to best reach you.
Finally, now that you know just how much fun we are going to have, INVITE OTHERS! If you know someone who has been considering Scouting, feel free to bring them along to show them what a great time your Scout is having. And hey, if they decide to join too, your Scout may be eligible for the Recruiter patch. Scouts love patches!
Again, we are so EXCITED you have decided to join us this year. We hope that you will find Pack 11 to be like family over the coming years. If you have any questions, always feel free to reach out to one of our leaders via email or phone. We look forward to getting to know you better!
Yours in Scouting,
Jess Stokes, Cubmaster
