Strategic Education is one of the largest education companies in the United States with a range of divisions such as Capella University, Strayer University and Sophia Learning as well as other education outlets in the portfolio of brands. In 2020 SEI's Alt Learning Group made the determination to offer services and support to other institutions as a way to bridge the gap that many students are experiencing by being forced into online learning for the first time. The primary client institutions in the new outreach are mostly smaller, underserved institutions with limited resources often located in rural areas.
The most notable project during my time at SEI was the development of a series of training seminars aimed at college faculty that made the rapid change to online teaching following the Covid19 pandemic. The principal participants were enrolled through a partnership with the NAACP from faculty, staff and administrators from HBCUs across the US.
We developed a series of 3 seminars each lasting 4 weeks with a weekly synchronous session and asynchronous materials to engage with. Of the 3 courses, I developed the third seminar in the series titled Advanced Online Facilitation. In addition to solo developing the course content, I developed many of the individual resources contained in the student workbook. After development was completed for the course, I facilitated and co-facilitated one cohort each of the course to gather information for evaluation of the course material. In addition, we offered office hours on Friday of each week where 3 specialists were available to offer specific guidance to participants on topics related to edtech, pedagogy and general thoughts and tips.
Below you will find the course materials.
