In Loving Memory of Luna

Luna was a very social cat, though she certainly had her playful, feline quirks. Unfortunately, as her owner (19AADX001), I noticed her illness too late. Luna never showed any signs of discomfort. Ever since she came to live with me in 2006, she vomited frequently, but I failed to recognize this as a symptom. On December 17, 2024, everything still seemed perfectly fine. Despite being together 24 hours a day, I did not notice that Luna had lost a significant amount of weight.

However, looking back at the photos, my iPhone camera had captured the change. When sitting at an angle, she appeared larger than she did from a straight, front-facing view. On December 18, 2024, tragedy struck. Luna was lying between my keyboard and monitor when ammonia-scented slime began to run from her mouth. I immediately knew something was seriously wrong. I instantly called Vet Home in Eindhoven. The veterinarian came to our home to examine her and discovered that Luna’s molars were decayed. Luna was prescribed pain medication (Novacam 0.5 mg/ml) so she could eat, but it did not help. She refused both food and water. A stressful battle then began to get Luna admitted to a veterinary hospital for an emergency examination.

Unfortunately, due to the dismissive attitude of the hospital staff on the phone, we lost crucial days. They repeatedly claimed they had no time, even suggesting an appointment in February 2025. By then, Luna's weight had dropped to just 2.6 kg. Fortunately, Vet Home has excellent connections with the senior management of the Veterinary Hospital in Eindhoven. They advised me to bring Luna in on December 24, 2024. By that time, it was already too late, and I had lost all hope. Deep down, I felt it was over. After two hours, the veterinarian called to inform me that Luna could not be saved due to kidney failure.

It was discovered that one of Luna's kidneys was slightly enlarged and no longer functioning, while the second kidney was too small to cope with the workload. This was a congenital defect she had likely suffered from since birth. I now understand why she vomited so frequently. I used to think it was just the food, as she would cycle through periods of being fine, vomiting, or refusing to eat. Having two cats, frequent vomiting—even shortly after eating—seemed almost normal. Luna’s niece, Choco, was born on January 1, 2015. They shared the same parents due to inbreeding. Unfortunately, the exact day and month of birth for both cats are unknown; Luna was born sometime between January and March 2014, and Choco during the same period in 2015. Choco is still alive today, on July 6, 2026, but suffers from osteoarthritis in her lower back and hips.

On December 24, the specialist at the veterinary hospital advised euthanasia in the short term. I insisted on bringing Luna home so that Vet Home could perform the procedure in my presence. Audrey from Vet Home collected Luna from the Eindhoven Veterinary Hospital, brought her to my house, waited 15 minutes, and then peacefully administered the final injection.

Watching the light fade from Luna's eyes was heartbreaking. The color faded into a dark, empty stillness, leaving no pupils—just absolute emptiness. The eyes truly are the window to the soul, which leaves the body to ascend to a new world, a different matrix or dimension known as Cat Heaven.

Please pay close attention to your cats. In the wild, animals hide sickness and pain as a survival instinct to avoid showing weakness. Watch them closely. I recognized the symptoms years too late; had I known sooner, I could have intervened with a specialized diet.

Rest in peace, my angel Luna. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. I know Luna still visits our home frequently. I notice this through Choco’s behavior, as well as through special motion-activated spirit balls that light up when there is movement. They often go off around the house and near her urn. There is far more to life after death than people realize. Your spirit and soul leave the physical body, which either returns to the earth or is cremated into ashes, just like Luna. I know Luna is waiting for Choco and me. We will all eventually become ash, and my daughter Xenia will scatter us together so we can live in a safe, peaceful matrix paradise—our next great adventure.
