Housing Equity Initiative

TLAD is short for "Tenant Leadership Against Displacement".  This is an initiative to bring local residents together and discuss challenges that people deal with in the midst of the housing crisis.  The local research gathered from this initiative informs OVCO as to what direction it should take as a charity. We continue to be community- led and provide relevant support to our members.

This work began in 2025 with the opportunity for residents to complete our online, anonymous survey.  This survey was developed by OVCO to get a sense of what tenants are experiencing in this part of the city.  Are you feeling secure as a tenant or do you live in fear of an eviction? How are you coping with increases to your rent? How are your living conditions? Are you looking to move elsewhere because housing costs are too high here? It has been observed that displacement has been steadily occuring and continues to be the trend here in this part of Toronto.

This initiative created safe spaces where community residents could share details on their housing challenges.  (*Sorry, no photos to show here of the participation in these sessions!) In person sessions were held in the first half of 2026 which allowed people to open up and relate to eachother on housing issues.  Strategies and areas of support were also discussed. OVCO is avidly working to bring these ideas to fruition.
