HISTORY 📖

OVCO grew out of Oakwood Vaughan Neighbourhood Action Partnership (OV NAP), a city mandated community consultation table. OV NAP established the VRA sub-committee, to deal with the imminent closing of Vaughan Road Academy and threatened privatization. This resident-led sub-committee was essentially the steering committee in OV NAP. It was decided to incorporate this sub-committee as OVCO, which would be community-based, with the capacity to administer projects, and lead community advocacy initiatives, separate from the City-sponsored OV NAP.

OVCO incorporated in November, 2017 and received charitable status in 2018.

OUR PRINCIPLES AND BELIEFS

Everyone has strengths.
We must challenge oppression.
Some people in the community have greater needs and fewer choices and therefore need more services, advocacy and support.

Through empowered members, the community is strengthened
We create and support opportunities for respectful interactions so that community members can decide what is best for themselves

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

OVCO's Board of Directors consists of community residents. The role of the Board is to continue advocating for our community and engage our community and elected officials to keep our work going!
