The first part of OVCO's TLAD (Tenant Leadership Against Displacement) project is officially live! Go to this link to find our 'Tenants' Needs Survey'. We want to hear from all tenants in the neighbourhood (Oakwood Vaughan and west Little Jamaica) - no matter what type of housing you are in! In addition, if you previously were a tenant in the area but you got displaced the survey is also for you!
If you aren't a local tenant please share widely with everyone you know who is/might be! This survey along with upcoming focus groups will provide the basis for growing tenant leadership and collective action in the neighbourhood.
Based on what we hear from the community, OVCO will be developing a course to train local tenants as Tenant Leaders next year (if funding is renewed). We will also be able to work with Oakwood Vaughan Tenant Union to provide a detailed idea of the resources needed in the community. So, please share widely!
Currently the survey is only available in English but we are working on translating it to common languages in the community. If you have any specific requests for language translations let us know at housing.ovco@gmail.com. In addition, if you want to hear more about our work and other affordable housing and tenant related updates email us and ask to be signed up for our Housing and Tenant mailing list!
Our first TLAD (Tenant Leadership Against Displacement) focus group is officially happening on January 22nd, 2026 at 504 Oakwood! there are only 30 spots!
This event is focused on tenants in our community, with the main focus area is on tenants living between Vaughan, Eglinton and Winnett. Future events will be focused on Eglinton and another for below Vaughan.
This event is exclusively for tenants and each attendee will receive a $25 gift card. The information shared during the event will be utilised in our research development of tenant needs in the area. But we also hope to develop further connections among community members, provide advice to tenants, and create a safe space to share housing difficulties!
We hope to see you there and if you would like to attend but would need extra support to do so (it’s icy out!) please email us at housing.ovco@gmail.com!'
Let's make a difference together:
Join hands with us for a brighter, stronger neighborhood!
