1. Instruct the students to (within a boundary) collect all the man-made and natural things they can find
2. Give examples such as sticks, rocks dirt, water bottles, sweatshirts etc.
3. Tell them to make a pile with all of the items
4. After a designated time, ask them to write down other items they saw but could not pick up or any other items they can think of
5. Tell them that one blanket is for renewable resources and the other is nonrenewable and ask them to sort their items to the best of their ability
6. Have a discussion about the definitions and where the different items belong (renewable resources need to replace or renew themselves within a person's life time)
