accessibility and inclusivity
Sensory needs:
As a neurodivergent person, I understand that people have unique sensory needs when it comes to clothing. Before we go shopping, we will chat about what sensory issues you may have with clothing, what sensory experiences make clothing feel great for you, and if there are any accommodations you need in order to navigate retail shopping environments. I will also bring fidget toys to every meeting!
Size inclusivity:
I firmly believe that fashion is for everyBODY! You deserve to wear the clothes that make you feel good no matter your size or shape. Fighting back against deeply entrenched fatphobia in the fashion industry is an integral part of the work I do as a stylist. Check out my resources and brands page to see a list of places you can shop, the maximum size that store carries is always included.
Gender inclusivity:
Clothing doesn’t have gender, people do. I don’t make assumptions about what type of clothing you will want to wear based on your gender identity. Before we go shopping, we will talk about your gender presentation goals and make sure that we find outfits that bring you maximum gender euphoria! Navigating gendered clothing sections can have a lot of dysphoria triggers, so I will make sure to chat with you about what section(s) you like to shop in before we go to a store together.
Affordability:
Personal stylists can be expensive. Some rates can go as high as $200 an hour. I strive to make my services as affordable as possible to everyone who needs them. That’s why I use a sliding scale payment model and ask that clients pay what they can. I am also super thrifty and will help you strategize to find clothes you love that are in your budget.
COVID safety:
Out Of The Closet PDX recognizes that the pandemic never ended and that we have a responsibility to protect each other. The majority of my clients are queer, trans, neurodivergent, and disabled and have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Masking is an easy and important way to keep each other safe, so I will wear an N-95 to all of our appointments unless it's specifically more accessible for you to do the appointment without a mask. I am also vaccinated for COVID-19 and boosted. I will always cancel our appointment if I am experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.
Other accessibility needs:
If you have any other needs I didn’t mention, please share them with me! I would love to know how I can best accommodate you.
