Basilisks are sometimes (maybe often) referred to as the Jesus Christ Lizard due to their ability to walk (run) on water. They have large webbed rear feet that they use to accomplish this. During our river journey out to Tortuguero, a small one was so keen to see us that it ran across from the bank and crashed into the side of our boat!
This Emerald Basilisk, was seen climbing in the jungle just above river level in Tortuguero NP during a morning boat excursion..
Saw this one on a walk near the Esquinas Rainforest Lodge.
This common basilisk was seen during our walk through Manuel Antonio NP.
Seen briefly clinging (effortlessly) to a wall in Manuel Antonio NP. It soon scampered away. So only a record shot of this one.
