The Toucan was pretty much a must-see bird for this trip and let's face it, Toucans are an iconic bird.
(Pteroglossus torquatus)
Day one in Tortuguero on the Caribean coast within an hour of arriving at the lodge. One of the gardeners pointed it out to us in the grounds! .
(Pteraglosus frantzii)
The first image is just a record shot of this one taken during a walk along the road near Esquinas Lodge. Featuring on the front cover of our Birds of Costa Rica book, it felt pretty special to see this bird during the trip.
The second taken near to the restaurant at Esquinas.
(Aulacorhynchus prasinus)
This one appeared very briefly during early morning coffee at Monteverde, while we we all looking at hummingbirds! So very much a grab shot.
(Ramphastos ambiguous)
Another taken in Tortuguero early in our trip. Referred to as the Black-mandibled Toucan in our bird book, but the name has been revised.
(Ramphastos sulfuratos)
Saw one of these from the window in our shower in Tortoguero, but oddly perhaps didn't have a camera to hand at the time, so we didn't get a shot of one. Fortunately Peter was able to catch one... đŸ˜€
