Going to the tropics always conjures up thoughts of possible parrot sightings...
(Ara macau)
To see these in the wild is a real privilege. Makes such a change from seeing them in a cage at the zoo! They apparently mate for life, so not too surprised to see this pair bickering over something...
(Ara ambiguous)
A pair of Great Green Macaws in the early light on our first morning in Tortuguero NP. They looked truly majestic as they headed across the river towards the coast. Peter captured an almost identical image to this, probably less than 1/1000th of second apart. The only visible difference is that in Peter's image, the bill on the lower Macaw is just obscured by its wing.
The bird shown here in the second image, was only seen by David during a lunctime walk in the hotel gardens at Tortuguero.
(Brotogeris jugularis))
A pair of Orange-chinned parakeets soaking up the early morning sunshine on the Pacific coast at Manuel Antonia.
(Amazona farinosa)
Photographed in the hotel gardens at Tortuguero.
(Amazona autumnalis)
Seen just down the road from Esquinas Rainforest Lodge. Very similar to the Mealy Parrot but note red forehead.
