(Tigrisoma mexicanum)
A quite stunning bird, which we were able to see quite close up from the boat in Tortuguero NP. These shots were taken early in the day and it was cool to to see the one below sunning itself. Probably drying out. It had been raining heavily for the previous 8-hours or so and there's probably only so much shelter out in the forest.
(Butorides virescens)
Another one from the early morning river excursion in Tortuguero NP.
(Egretta caerulea))
On a morning hunt in Tortuguero NP.
(Nicticorax nichticorax)
This juvenile was another sighting during a morning river excersion in the Tortuguero NP and the only example of this bird we have a photo of... so far.
(Nyctanassa violacea)
This Heron was trying to get some sleep, perhaps after a busy night in the Tortuguero NP.
(Cochlearius cochlearius)
These odd looking birds are active at night. We caught up with them roosting in a tree enroute between Tortuguero and La Fortuna.
(Bubulcus ibis)
We came across a number of Cattle Egrets next to the approch road to Esquinas Rainforest Lodge.
(Ardea alba)
This Egret went flying by as we were on the river at Tortuguero.
(Egretta thula)
Seen at the riverside on the way into Tortuguero.
(Anhinga anhinga)
Strictly speeaking, this bird does not belong in this category/family as it is more closely related to the Cormorant. So this image taken in Tortuguero NP, may get moved.
