Epic! - Epic! is an online digital library of books for kids. This is a great resource for accessing books that your child can use to read the pictures, read the words, listen to stories, research for information, and more. Your child's teacher will send you an access code so that you can login at home, or feel free to use the free trial. One of the great things about this resource is the variety of fiction, non-fiction, 'read -to-me', and audio stories that allow kids to look at books independently, read along, and find information.Our class login code is: (coming soon) Access Epic! Flyleaf Publishing - Flyleaf is a digital library filled with a large variety of online levelled readers. You are able to access books at many different levels to read online. Access Flyleaf HERE.
Teach Monster - Teach Monster is a well-loved online game that teaches letters, sounds, words, and sentence practice with your child. It starts with beginning sounds and builds up to reading full sentences through an engaging game format. As your child progresses through levels they receive prizes for their monster which add to its unique design, often very motivating for children. This website is accessed through the computer or app; the app version requires an educator account and code from your child's teacher.

Starfall - Starfall is an interactive app that teaches children from grades K-3 the fundamentals of reading, basic math, shapes and phonics. The Starfall program is a staple app used across many school districts to engage students in learning across the primary grades. Audible - Audible is an online audiobook library. These audio books can be listened to from a range of devices (phone, computer or tablet). Find a cozy spot and choose a folktale, fable or fairytale to listen to. Access Audible here.
Mathletics - Our school has an account for all students Grade 1-5. Skill building games and activities can be accessed through your child's login (coming soon).
Tumble Math- One of the most effective ways to teach math concepts, especially to reluctant learners, is by using stories and literature. TumbleMath is the most comprehensive collection of math picture books you will find anywhere, complete with animation and narration. Access TumbleMath here. Username: Lochside123 Password: login
Mystery Doug- Mystery Doug offers short videos that cover a student-created question in natural settings. The videos also include visuals of key vocabulary and opportunities for students to stop and wonder about posed questions. Through discussions surrounding the videos, movement encouraged by the video, and visually intriguing clips of video, your child is sure to feel more curious about the world around them after viewing. Learning extensions are provided at the end of the video and link to Epic! books that allow your child to dig deeper into their wonders. These videos are meant to be shared so you can listen to your child's thinking and respond to the questions as well. WorldBook Kids- WorldBook Kids is an online database that allows students to search for more information on a variety of topics. Information is displayed in read-to-me text, photographs and short video clips. WorldBook Kids can be used as a credible source of information for students to find answers to their questions or to spark their curiosities about the world around them. Cosmic Kids Yoga - This is a great resource for yoga, mindfulness exercises, stories, and more. A nice feature is the ability to choose the activity time, energy level, and type of workout; from a relaxing mindfulness moment that can be listened to (without adding screentime), or a yoga story to watch and follow along with. MusicPlay Online - MusicPlay Online is a Canadian resource that supports our classroom music program. You can log in with a generic, free, student login ID (prompts provided when you visit the site). Here, you will find hundreds of songs to sing and move to, along with an "online learning" tab, and loads of fun extras to explore. Click here to start singing and moving!
Emily Arrow - This singer-songwriter creates songs to go with some of our most loved picture books. You can listen to them on her youtube channel or your home music provider (i.e. apple, spotify, etc.), check out more information on her website, or join her free daily sing alongs at 10am, Monday-Friday here. Check out her songs, 'Be a Friend', and 'I am Peace', to get started.
Mo Willems - Directed Drawing (learn to draw Piggie From Mo Willems' beloved Elephant and Piggie series!). Grab a pencil and some paper and click here! You can also check out Mo Willems' Lunch Doodles to spend some time with one of your child's favourite authors! Click here to get started!
Art for Kids Hub - This YouTube channel offers directed drawings on a large variety of subject matter. It is fun for kids and encouraging as it features a father drawing with his young son or daughter, so children see that drawings do not need to be perfect! There are also videos for "young artists" that might be particularly suitable for our Kindergarten/Grade 1 children. Click here to visit the Art for Kids Hub.
Learning updates (report cards) are now shared digitally through a reporting tool called BrightSpace. This is a secure online parent/guardian portal. We encourage all parents/guardians to log in to their account now in order to ensure timely access to learning updates. To get started:
1) click the link above
2) click parent log in
3) the first time you log in you will need to click on FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD
4) follow instructions for password set up in your email - TIP - your email HAS TO MATCH THE EMAIL PROVIDED TO THE SCHOOL, otherwise your name will not be recognized.
5) log in with new password and email that is shared with the school
Once you have set up this account you can access Brightspace at any time through the school website under the parent tab.
If you experience any issues please contact the school office. Paper copies of learning updates will be made available through the school office on request.
