Outside Lands Event Info & FAQ
Dress Code
Please abide by these dress-code guidelines to avoid risk of being sent home. These requirements are for provider safety, ease of identification at a major event, and public safety requirements.
NO JEANS. NO OPEN TOED SHOES.
EMTs and Field staff:
Black or Navy work pants (EMS Pants preferred, but not required) - no leggings, no jeans. Scrub bottoms are allowed, but not recommended - be aware that you will be working in an outdoor environment which may be dusty, muddy, etc.
Sneakers and boots are acceptable but please no open-toed shoes, flats, or crocs.
You will be provided with a Rock Medicine/OSL uniform shirt when you check in for your first shift.
Rock Medicine High-Vis jackets will be available - if you are wearing a jacket, it must be High-Vis.
You may wear personal layers underneath so long as a Rock Medicine layer is your outer layer.
No EMS uniform apparel with non-Rock Medicine logos is acceptable. If the logo is small, it may be covered with tape - please check with a supervisor and be prepared with a backup plan.
Clinic Staff:
Scrubs pants in any color are fine. Jeans are NOT OKAY.
Sneakers and boots are acceptable but please no open-toed shoes, flats, or crocs.
You will be provided with a Rock Medicine/OSL uniform shirt when you check in for your first shift.
Call Time
Call time each morning is 9:30 at Polo Medical. Polo Medical can be found on JFK Drive just east of 36th Avenue, within the event perimeter. The nearest security entrance point will be about 100 yards west down JFK, on the other side of the intersection with 36th. Please arrive on time so that you can check-in and be ready for the briefing which will begin at 9:45.
Parking
The festival is only able to issue Rock Medicine a limited number of parking spaces - they are highly constrained on space available in the park. We have assigned as many parking spots as we were given to volunteers!
If you were issued parking you will receive an email with carpool and parking instructions. If you are a part of a carpool, you will receive parking based on who is the official person in the carpool (in most cases, the driver).
Priority for parking passes is given to 3-day volunteers to maximize the use of our parking allotment.
If you would like to try to park without a parking pass, you will need to find a legal parking space outside the event perimeter and road closures. Historically, the best opportunities for this are early in the morning in the few blocks north of Fulton St. Please note that we cannot excuse late arrivals due to searching for parking, so if you are going to take the risk of unreserved parking we suggest you arrive early!
Meals
Outside Lands has some of the best restaurants in the Bay Area as vendors on-site at the event. For a full list of food options, check out the Outside Lands website, which usually posts a map of food vendors the week of the event: https://sfoutsidelands.com.
All Rock Medicine staff will be given meal vouchers for two meals a day (lunch and dinner). These vouchers are as good as cash but only usable at vendors in the festival footprint. Please treat the vouchers like cash and keep them safe as they cannot be replaced. You will be scheduled for specific break periods to eat based on your department's staffing plan - field and clinic staff will be rotated in groups to meal breaks.
Assorted snacks and drinks are always available at Polo Medical for all Rock Medicine staff working that day, and you are welcome to bring small snacks for yourself as well that you can cary with you.
Personal Belongings
Volunteer storage space is limited, so only bring what you need
What would you need: Maybe your battery pack, some sunglasses, your favorite pen (be careful though, pens always go missing), and maybe some layers for when it gets cold at night.
All staff should plan on using a clear bag per Festival Guidelines. RockMed has no control over this.
The weather in Golden Gate Park can only be guaranteed to be variable! Usually it is chilly in the morning, warm throughout the day (if its sunny) and then chilly at night. RockMed High-Vis jackets will be provided for field staff and must be your outer-most layer at night.
Other Helpful Information
If you will be working on a field team and haven't worked at a major Rock Medicine event before, we suggest you also read the Rock Medicine Communications Guide to refresh your memory on our radio protocols.
Once again - we are here to help. If after reading the above docs and the wiki you have questions, please use the information on the contact page or bring your questions to the morning briefing.
