Origami has helped me to remain calm and focused. It taught me to be patient and follow verbal and written communication.

Retired  Accountant---  G. Kulkami ---India --- January 2024

...... Origami has given me a lot of satisfaction, and when I see people look at a piece, they smile.  That's a good thing!

I love teaching origami to my group of 6 - 11 years olds........  they are always so quiet and relaxed -  it's like origami has put a magic spell on them!

Play Worker --- Nazianna --- England  UK --- October 2006

.......... I have used simple origami in our "Creative Arts"  groups and found that a surprising number of our inpatients enjoyed it.   I had thought it would be too difficult as the acuity on the wards is now so high and most clients have poor concentrations, shaky hands etc.

Mental Health Nurse --- Lesley J --- Perth, Australia --- July 2004

.......... I involved teaching in children art clubs .......... I found that it helps them to focus, concentrate and learn in a very relaxed and calm atmosphere .......... very effective when working with children with behavioural problems.

Artist --- Sedge --- Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK ---June 2004

.......... I have been using origami for a while now in Mental health settings.  It has many uses but I find it most useful when assessing clients' concentration.

Occupational Therapist --- Neil Sykes --- Liverpool, England, UK ---  Oct 2003

.......... I found that origami is an effective communication tool to bridge people and a productive activity to allow people to express themselves in a safe environment.

I feel in love with your site. ....... I do origami as a stress buster at work and a morale booster......It helped a lot when my husband was away on a temporary duty for 120 days.  During his absence, I made a point to fold origami flower a day and I ended having 120 flowers all over my office.  It helped me think and kept my mind thinking about his short absence.

.......... I do an "Art for Fun" group in a PSR program. My clients often have difficulty in socializing. Origami helps to bring them out of their shells. I get to see them sharing supplies and helping one another.  I sense the feeling of accomplishment when they exclaim....."You mean just like that? .....Then I did it right!"

Social Worker --- Liz --- Chicago, USA --- Nov 2001

.......... I have used origami as art therapy with a nine year old with symptoms of OCD, hypervigilance and affect dysregulation resulting from early trauma.

Art Therapist --- Sheila Ostroff --- Montreal, Canada --- June 2003

..........   I have taught learning disabled, deaf, blind and other handicapped people.  For some it opened up a new world.  When slow students can show others some of their folds, they increase their own self-esteem.  We are indeed fortunate that we can share what we ourselves enjoy.

Author --- Florence Temko --- San Diego, California, USA ---  Sept 1999

...... on a camping trip with Cub Scouts, ..... when I started making origami, they were amazed.  Even better, when I started teaching different simple folds.......  I can see that the positive part of this is awakening their creativity, developing a sense of cooperation and accomplishment, and the fine motor skills.......  I have 2 boys with ADHD, and the younger one loves to do folding along with me.

After high school I join the navy and was stationed on submarines.  To deal with the stress of being out to sea I feel back on my art skills, but because of space I couldn't bring along many things to sea. I choose Origami to fill my time with.  All I need was a Origami book and some papers  .......... It passed the time and kept my mind on other things ...... Some of my fellow sailors would like to come around and see what I had made.  One of my favourite models is the dragonfly.  Thanks again for this great website.
