our letter to you

Hi, Hello, Howdy,

I guess we should start by saying we don’t know where to start- adoption is as new to us as it is to you and I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to find the perfect family for your baby. We hope that this letter will give you a glimpse into our lives and help you decide if our family is the right fit. We want you to feel that your child is happy and safe, and and that we are committed to supporting you in whatever way you and your family needs- either through visits with the baby, updates and pictures as your kid grows up, or even just giving you space. If you choose us as your baby’s family, we will be forever grateful and your baby will grow up knowing that your decision to choose us was a beautiful selfless act of love.

Mel is often behind the camera, especially when we travel

I think the best way to describe us is that we are story collectors. We love to travel and try out new things- we go hiking, road tripping across the U.S. and explore foreign countries. Whether we are going far away or just hanging in our home town, we love the adventure of sharing a life together, and even when it all goes wrong, we get to laugh about it and have another great story. Our day to day life is usually spent quietly at home. We both love doing diy house projects. We usually get very dirty and make more than a few mistakes but solving problems and working together make amazing memories. Once, Mel decided she wanted a yellow kitchen and so she picked out what she thought was the perfect shade of yellow. As soon as Matt put it on the wall, though, he had his doubts but she was sure this was the right color. And sure enough, once it was all up we had the mustard color kitchen we never wanted. A different can of paint fixed the problem but we still tell and laugh about that story today. Our next big house project is to get some chickens and build a huge raised family garden so we can grow more of our own food and we can’t wait to see what stories come from that.

Mel and the furbabies

We also have three furbabies- a husky, a basset hound, and a whatever- who can’t wait to drool all over a human sibling. Jupiter, our husky, loves to dig in our yard and she has yet to find a plant she won’t try to eat. She even ate part of a cactus! Obi, our basset hound, is super snuggly and loves kids. He tends to think he is Mel’s lap dog and follows her around everywhere. Oski is our old man. He’s nine years old but still likes to wrestle with the puppies and chase down tennis balls. We take them almost everywhere with us- hiking, out to eat, and especially the dog park. We feel really lucky to live in San Antonio. The area is really laid back but there is always something to do. We spend our free time walking around the River Walk, trying out new foods, or swimming at the pool. We can’t wait to have a kid and be able to do all of the kid stuff- there’s a children’s exploratory play space, some great museums, theme parks, and a ton of playgrounds. We really love living here in part because it is the perfect place to have an active family.

Matt at an engineer accident site

From the very beginning of our relationship we knew we wanted kids and that we wanted to prioritize family time over work. We were both homeschooled growing up and really appreciated the amount of time our parents invested in us. We want to give that same kind of attention to our child and have chosen careers that reflect that. Matt became a structural engineer not only because he wanted a stable job that could support a family, but also because it allows him to work from home sometimes and gives him enough time off so we can travel and spend time together. Mel wanted to both stay at home with the baby and have a career so she teaches at a college where she only has to be at work twice a week. On the days she has to work, either Matt will work from home or one of the Grandmas will have the baby. This way, your baby will never have to be in some form of childcare and we both get to spend a lot of time bonding with him or her.

Texas Christmas together

Our whole lives we have waited and worked to have a baby. Having a family is the most important thing to us and we can’t wait to share all of our classic and goofy family traditions with a little one. Mel’s big family, Matt’s small one, and all our close friends are so excited about us adopting and we want you to know that your baby is unbelievably wanted and loved- not just by us but by our whole community. If you choose us, your baby will grow up in a home full of stories and adventures. We are dreamers and we are just waiting for our dream of a family to happen. If you think you are meant to be part of that dream, please, please contact us. We can’t wait to meet you.

Love,

Matt and Mel
