Cleaning up litter and protecting our waterways can be a part of our everyday life, and it doesn't take much to make a difference. My Dad always says to "leave with one more piece than you came with" and that's something I have taken to heart. Whether you're walking in the park, heading to the beach, or even just driving along the road, picking up just one extra piece of trash can help reduce pollution and protect the environment. It might seem small, but when millions of people make this simple choice, it adds up quickly. Every piece of litter we pick up keeps harmful waste out of our waterways. So, the next time you see a piece of trash, remember—it’s all about taking that additional piece and overall all of us taking responsibility together.
Hosting cleanups is a powerful way to make a real impact on our environment, and it’s about more than just picking up trash. It’s an opportunity to protect wildlife, reduce pollution, and keep our communities beautiful. Plus, cleanups are a great way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors! Picking up litter helps us stay fit while doing something positive for the planet. One of my goals is to host 15 cleanups before the end of 2025 and inspire communities across the state to organize even more cleanups. I am also partnering with local youth groups to get teens involved—because when we work together, we can create lasting change. Cleanups are a great way to bring people together, build friendships, and create a sense of purpose while making a real difference in the world.
