Ten years ago, Pope Francis wrote a document called Laudato Si’, which translated is Praised be You, my Lord. This is the opening line of the Canticle of Creation by St. Francis. The subtitle is On Care for Our Common Home. He addressed this document, not just to Catholics, but to all people of good will on the whole earth because of his concern for the degradation of the whole planet into ecological catastrophe.
Pope Francis tells us this crisis is a moral and spiritual challenge to care for God’s creation. Because we are all connected as one human family we must address the impact on the poor by living in solidarity. Technology and economic systems must support life and creation for all people, especially the most vulnerable instead of benefiting only the elite. It is time to act and he invites to act with hope and joy.
Prayer of the Faithful: That, in this 10th Anniversary Year of Laudato Si’, all people may work together to pass to the future generations the gift of an Earth with cleaner land, water, and air; healed, restored, and teeming with life.
Lord, Hear Our Prayer
