"Between the World and Me"
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates is a book written as a letter to his son. It talks about what it means to be Black in America. Coates shares his own life and his fears for his son. He wants his son to understand how the world treats Black people.
Coates talks about growing up and going to college. He calls his college "The Mecca" because it helped him learn about Black history and pride. He met many different Black people there and learned from them. This helped him see how strong and beautiful Black culture is.
The book also talks about the American Dream. Coates says the dream was built by hurting Black people. He says it is not real for everyone. He shows how unfair the world is for Black people, even today.
A very sad part of the book is when Coates talks about his friend who was killed by the police. He uses this story to show how dangerous the world can be for Black people. He wants his son to know this truth, even if it is painful.
In the end, the book does not give hope or easy answers. It tells the truth about racism and how it hurts people. Coates writes to help his son stay strong and aware. He wants him to live with knowledge and pride.
