Our Lady of Grace School Re-Engagement & Reopening Plan

Catholic Identity

Partnership with Parish Religious Education Program

Beginning in the fall of 2020, the Parish Religious Education Program and OLG School's Religion program will coordinate resources, instructional practices, and student data to ensure the religious and faith formation of every student.

Church

Students will have opportunities to share and express their faith with their peers and at OLG. Prayer Services may be altered to fit a digital format, but will still allow for church participation and engagement.

Christian Service

Partnership with class and school-wide service agencies will continue to play a prominent role in student life at OLG. Service is at the heart of our Christian faith and there's never been a more important time to reach out to others.

Socio-Emotional Support

Supporting All Students

OLG School will work quickly to establish and implement daily routines for both in-person and at-home learning. Stress management and mindfulness practices will have a role in daily classroom routine. Teachers will consider the impact of stress and trauma when instructing and supporting students. We are promoting the wellness of students on a daily basis.

Staff Support

Provide trainings on secondary traumatic stress and self-care. Promote mindfulness techniques and staff social supports with routine communication.

Community and Family Engagement

Collaborate with shareholders to provide support regarding adult and student mental health and trauma through a resilience-informed lens. Include information and links to increase access to mental health and wellness resources and include resources for basic needs through digital communication.

Health Practices

Health Screening

Each student will enter the school through an assigned entrance and have their temperature taken each morning. Students with a temperature above 100.4 will be escorted to the conference room to return home. They may not return until they have been free of any symptom, including fever, associated with COVID-19 for at least 24 hours.

Social Distancing

We are blessed with the facilities to allow all students to return to campus while keeping socially distanced. Students in many grades will be spread out in two classrooms and students in grades 6-8 will have more than enough room in the Parish Center. The office will only be open to essential visitors.

Illness Prevention

All staff will wear face coverings to protect students. As of right now, students must wear face coverings while waiting to enter the school, while on school grounds, while not able to social distance, and while leaving school. Masks may be removed for eating, drinking, and relaxation periods where students are distanced and outdoors. Staff and students will be trained on proper hygiene and hand washing techniques and encouraged to not touching their face or face coverings. We are employing proper sanitizing and disinfecting techniques.

Facility Developments

Adams Field

Shade, concrete, and tables are being added for regular use by students. The larger area will enable students to play outside while still practicing social distancing. The new shade and tables at the field will allow students to play in a large area while remaining socially distanced.

Parish Center

Facility upgrades also include bringing the secure school wireless connection and a new screen to the Parish Center and purchasing additional devices to allow all students to be one-to-one without sharing devices.

Classrooms

Kindergarten will move to Lauerman Hall to allow them to stay together as one class. First grade will use one classroom. Second through Fifth grade will use two classrooms each. Sixth through eighth grade will use the Parish Center.

Curriculum and Instruction

Acceleration, Not Remediation

OLG teachers carefully selected their priority standards for the next school year and will focus on reinforcing the 2019-2020 school year concepts through their 2020-2021 grade-level instruction. Teachers work closely with the instructor below and above them to ensure vertical alignment and shared expectations. Click the image for an in-depth explanation of this concept.

Curriculum Conferences

Teachers meet regularly in-person and virtually with the OLG Curriculum Director. Together, they evaluate plans, examine data, and make instructional decisions to ensure the success of each student. Monthly curriculum conferences also help support pacing, instructional methodology, and assessment practices.

Professional Development and Teacher Resources

Teachers are attending multiple professional development seminars and classes in summer of 2020 to prepare for the upcoming school year. Professional Learning with continue on site and Diocesan levels to ensure teachers have the resources and training needed to facilitate blended and distance learning.

Schedule and Logistics

Calendar and Bell Schedule

OLG School has incorporated 25 minutes for health screenings at the beginning of the school day as students arrive on campus through multiple entry points. Bells will not ring throughout the day to allow each individual class autonomy. The first day of school is August 19th.

Three Week Segments

If you choose at-home learning for your student, they will be committed to that program for six weeks. After those three weeks, you have the option of continuing distance learning or coming back to the classroom.

Additional Staffing and Resources

OLG School is planning to hire multiple additional instructional aides to cover the split classes that facilitate distance learning. Extracurricular sports have not been announced for the fall season.
