The Old Barn Cat Rescue is a small, family run, 501 (c)-3 non-profit organization, located in Spokane, Washington, dedicated to saving as many cats and kittens as possible. We believe that every cat has a perfect home, and we are committed to finding that home, no matter what it takes. Every cat we take in becomes a member of the family, who is spoiled with treats, toys, and endless love.
We primarily focus on helping pregnant females, and orphaned and/or at risk kittens we do have experience with all kinds of cats. Every cat presents a new challenge, but caring for them and finding them their perfect home is an even greater reward!

It is amazing to see how a scared cat turns into our beloved family member, with just a little time and love. We thought, especially with kids spending so much time with the cats, that, having known and loved a cat for months, maybe since the second it was born, it would be nearly impossible to find them homes, but it isn't. Finding a forever home is bittersweet, but it is the best part of the fostering process. We get to know that we have saved a life, and now a wonderful cat gets the life and family they deserve.
All of our cats are (at minimum) spayed or neutered, dewormed, and have their first round of FVRCP vaccinations. Every cat is friendly, and well socialized with people of all ages, including children. All of our cats are fully litter-box trained, and have good house manners.
Each cat will have their 'ideal home' listed in their profile, but we generally require indoor or secure indoor/outdoor homes, as well as lots of love! With very few (behavioral or medical) exceptions, we do NOT adopt out to only pet homes, and highly encourage that kittens are adopted pairs. Cats greatly benefit from a having another cat, allowing them to play, cuddle, and enjoy their wild side. Having another kitten around will help with a kittens development, as cats will teach each other good habits. Additionally, when raised alone kitten's develop single kitten syndrome, which manifests in depression, destructive behaviors, and even aggression.
We occasionally have barn/farm cats who cannot/will not adjust to indoor life, and they require constant access to a comfortable and safe, shelter, fresh water, and nutritional food, as well as lots of love, should they want it.
Spaying and neutering (aka sterilizing) your pets is very important for their well being. Not only does it prevent the birth of unwanted animals, but it helps keep them safe. Having kittens makes a cat feel vulnerable, and more likely to display aggressive behaviors, as well as causing her extreme physical and emotional stress. A male cat who is fixed is far more likely to stay close to home, instead of escaping outdoors in search of a female. Neutering also helps to prevent numerous behavioral problems, such as spraying, and a tendency to fight with other cats.
A spay or neuter surgery is a very simple, and routine procedure, with minimal to no risk involved. In Spokane, there are several vet clinics who will sterilize a cat for as low as 30$, which is far less than the cost of having to raise a litter of kittens.
We are located in North Spokane, Washington. Our rescue is based entirely out of our own home, and, because of this, we typically do not allow people to come by just to meet kittens. However, we are more than happy to introduce you to us and our kittens via a digital meeting, and will provide as much information, pictures, and videos as you can handle.
For the actual adoption, we will be happy to meet at your home if you are within an hour or so distance, or at any meeting point within the town should your prefer. If you are located further away then that, we would be happy to meet you part way.
